IRS admits, apologizes for singling out conservative groups

Responding to a flurry of complaints from conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status, the Internal Revenue Service admitted Friday it made "mistakes" in the last few years while trying to process those requests.

Multiple tea party groups reported significant delays and excessive questioning from IRS officials while trying to obtain 501(c)(4) status.

"I think it was without doubt wrong. We knew it was wrong in the beginning," he said. "They had no right, whatsoever,...no right to deny us tax exempt status that 501(c)(4) groups routinely received."

Interesting. When Obama For America became a 501c4, it took them a few days.

ONCE???? hahahahahha...... that is a joke... when did the groups first start complaining and when did the IRS finally admit to wrong doing? and that is "one lie"?

you are trying to equate the words of the newly appointed IRS chief to those of an outside independent investigation. Why should one beleive the new chief of the IRS over an outside investigation???

How many liberal orgs were asked to provide facebook pages? lists of atendees at rallies? How many wereinvestigated for prolonged periods like the conservative groups???

please answer all questions.
Not once. Once in a while.

And I do not know the answer to your first question. I just do not share your extreme skepticism in this case. If the IRS chief lied, It will come out. We will see.

ETA: BTW, your first response include this, "this just provides even more ammunition against the IRS". So use that claim as fact and put down the IRS. And now are spending all this effort to say that was a lie. That is a bit opportunistic, don't you agree?

Which came first, apathy or ignorance when it comes to politics? Are so many people apathetic when it comes to politics because of their ignorance or are they ignorant because of their apathy?.

The permanent bureaucracy is out of control. Time to end the Federal Income Tax and abolish the IRS.

Did you not see the part that I said I do not know the answer to your question? And your remark about this making IRS look even worse was right at the beginning. Please explain that.

if we don't know how the "progressive" groups were treated compared to the tea party groups than it strikes me as VERY premature to CLAIM that all the groups were treated the same. All the new IRS chief really said was that the terms were used to flag progressive applicants..... he never said anything else. claiming that this proves ANYTHING other than what is stated is wishful thinking at best and a flat out lie at worst. Again, the independent investigators whom having nothing to gain by making the IRS look bad found wrong doing. Obama agreed and a bunch of people got canned. its abuse of power at the minimum. of course.... when its my guy.....

as I said before, if you want to screen all potentially political groups, do it.... don't be screening for specific groups of people.

He probably was telling the truth .. we need to remember how Obama’s administration has made a science of parsing words .. it all depends on what the definition of is is.

The problem was it was very misleading as it was meant to be .. hoping people would jump to the wrong conclusion … which it did as you can see by the responses of the liberals.

i dont have time to read that but will later. But I was not talking about FBI i was talking about the IG. they did the investigation I am aware of.
sorry you see fairness as stupid. some people also think racial profiling is ok, some dont. if you agree with political profiling that is your business. i dont think that is fair and in fact, think it is illegal.[/QUOTE]

Where did i say I agreed with racial profiling? And I don't think the IRS was political profiling in a way similar to racial profiling. The nature of who they were auditing made it virtually imposible to use any flagging mechanism that wasn't political in nature. So i suppose it should have just been blind audits? That is a complete waste of resources and a waste of efforts.

I already stated several times that if you want to audit political orgs that I had no problem with that. what part of that do you not understand? its the selective choice to more aggressively go after the political party currently not in power that I find offensive and illegal. lists of people present at event strike you are legal for the gov to ask for? that is an invasion of ever single persons right to privacy (as just one example of illegal activities of the IRS). just keep wiping your ass with the constitution whenever it suits you.

But you're assuming it was politically motivated. I don't think it was. We're talking past one another here. When you have a policy of using red flags for audits, that was created by a republican, how on earth do you think this was politically motivated?

And i agree--that if people were to target those of certain political persuasion, for political reasons, that is extremely offensive and illegal. What we disagree on is whether it has occurred here.
