IRS admits, apologizes for singling out conservative groups

Responding to a flurry of complaints from conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status, the Internal Revenue Service admitted Friday it made "mistakes" in the last few years while trying to process those requests.

Multiple tea party groups reported significant delays and excessive questioning from IRS officials while trying to obtain 501(c)(4) status.

"I think it was without doubt wrong. We knew it was wrong in the beginning," he said. "They had no right, whatsoever,...no right to deny us tax exempt status that 501(c)(4) groups routinely received."

Interesting. When Obama For America became a 501c4, it took them a few days.

I am easy, reduce spending to or below current revenue levels. You could fire 75% of government employees at random and never know the difference. You could cut Military by 25% and still be the strongest force on the planet.
Why isn't the House passing such budget? They should either put up or shut up.

Despite being a left of center Democrat, I find this scandle a huge fricken problem. We are talking about a serious abuse of power and a FULL and complete investigation must take place. If this goes up to Obama, he should be impeached. My bet is that it didn't reach that high, but we need to see where the evidence takes us. Never should any department of this government target individuals based upon their political affiliations.
Agreed. However IF Obama did direct this, i don't think you'll EVER be able to prove it. I doubt he was dumb enough to fire off an email to that Bush appointee telling him to get those f'ers. The power of the IRS should NEVER be used for political purposes to silence the opposition. Anything they do should be random or based upon documentable red flags in returns or other documentation. Obama seems sincere in his outrage. Hopefully he investigates and prosecutes this so that it never happens again regardless of which party is in power.

LOLOLOLOL - So Obama just came out denying that he had any knowledge of this and vowing to "get to the bottom of it". LOLOLOL - Does ANYONE believe he did not know about this? Ha!
At this point incompetence is the go-to excuse. So yeah, at this point I'm starting to believe them.

It seems you are saying, "absence of evidence itself is evidence of guilt", or at least consistent with guilt. Or maybe I am just too sensitive about this.

Obama should use this latest incident to bow out of this failed, miserable presidency. Then he can play golf all day every day.

Who wants to take bets that Obama just ordered any documents related to this as classified and will at some point invoke "executive privilege" during the inquiry.

I can certainly agree with that.

directly OR indirectly?

ANYONE at the White House?

sorry, that's far too broad
By indirectly I was thinking more along the lines of the campaign organization versus the White House per se. That still would be HUGE in terms of news and political implications.

Anyone at the White House of any significance would qualify. Maybe not exactly Watergate equivalent but still ruinous. Remember that Nixon's "enemies list" wasn't created by Nixon.

Not that I think that it will be. More likely someone(s) who took it upon themselves. Which in some ways is even more troubling.

I do not think it is what you think. It is not like a police officer giving traffic tickets, where there is a higher level of subjective determination and discretion. I suspect with IRS, there are 1040 Form lines that ask if you have ins and if not to add some fines/fees/whatever in the next line.
those 16,000 new IRS agents hired to enforce Obamacare are not just your usual federal make-work programs to create jobs that produce nothing....these are the pit bulls, the enforcers, who will make sure the sheep will comply.

Quote :
When Obamacare’s individual mandate takes effect in 2014, all Americans who file income tax returns must complete an additional IRS tax form.

The new form will require disclosure of a taxpayer’s personal identifying health information in order to determine compliance with the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate.

As confirmed by IRS testimony to the tax-writing House Committee on Ways and Means, “taxpayers will file their tax returns reporting their health insurance coverage, and/or making a payment”.
Any bets on how many folks will "forget" to file said Obamacare IRS form, if for no other reason than to make them spend time effort and money reviewing each return and sending letters demanding the form be sent? I foresee massive civil disobedience, especially by the young and uninformed Obama supporters who have no idea they will now be forced to buy coverage they do not want, and the42% of Americans who dont even realize Obamacare is now law [go.com]!!!!

This level of ignorance in the public is an embarrassment. An informed citizenry is a bedrock for the survival of a democracy, and when 42% dont even know Obamacare is law they are ripe for exploitation and manipulation by demagogues and politicians. And this is but one example of the ignorance of the citizenry. ...now ask them something worthless and inconsequential to real-life as the latest hollywood news, the intrigue on American Idol or The Voice, and I'm sure close to 100% can give you every minute detail.

These uninformed hordes are in for a shock come 2014 tax filing time.

Some White House/Administration positions on some government missteps:

Fast and Furious:
Holder didn't know about it,

Bad green investments like Solyndra:
They didn't know they were bad despite DOE warnings.

Benghazi Could Withstand a Coordinated Attack:
We didn't get that cable. We get 1.43 million cables, how can you expect us to go through all of them and figure out what's important? Do you think that's our job or something?
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/OT...ZEkHbXktFs

Fixing the economy:
They didn't know how bad it was.
http://www.politico.com/politico4...07355.html

Obamacare:
(Not the administration technically but) Pelosi didn't know what was in it.

After spending all his political capital on Obamacare, he has been incapable of doing anything.

He can't organize his party to put a budget together. He couldn't broker a deal on the sequester (I'm actually happy about that). He couldn't broker a deal on gun legislation (I'm happy about that again). Now, one could probably blame a lot of that on obstructionist republicans, probably even rightly so. But part of being a good leader is figuring out how to stop the obstruction and get some agreement. His inability to forge alliances across the aisle is the primary evidence of his incompetence.
