However, in light of Adobe's announcement to move their suite entirely to the cloud, I think you'd be better served by buying the subscription at the student rate (currently $20/mo.).
You get access to the entire suite, and you won't have to deal with a product that will no longer have updates/support. $249.99+tax is pretty comparable to a one year subscription. Pretty sure updates will cease after a year.
What I'm saying is that they won't support CS6 anymore. They formally announced that they are not going to have product versions anymore. Adobe is notorious not to give you support for the next Camera RAW versions in a year when you buy a new camera or update codecs etc. For $250 academic price you can get $20 per month x 12 months of Creative Cloud for 1 year. Don't get me wrong, I think $240 a year for something that I would use intermittently is blatant robbery, but in two years CS6 will be generally incompatible and everybody by then will be 'forced' to upgrade to creative cloud to just maintain their products. Another subscription that I don't want.
Decent deal. Especially if you are not the type to upgrade to the new version as soon as it comes out. Even if you can get two years out of this, you are ahead by ~$240 compared to the subscription route.
I hate subscriptions.
