Bought mine a few weeks ago when the deal was out. Mine came a little earlier than the eta on the site. Mine was being built n once it shipped arrived pretty quickly.

I've been using it moderately not for gaming n the thing stays cool. Battery isn't horrid but not ultrbook material.

Then again the ppl complaining are ignorant if they're buying a gaming laptop and expecting amazing battery life. For the specs and the price you can't go wrong
Thanks

After getting a few defective ones from Amazon, the one I ordered through this deal, from Lenovo, seems to be a good one. Sure the trackpad still sucks but it's not any worse than my old Pavilion, once I turned off all the gestures I never use, it improved performance a little. Haven't played any games yet but runs cool during normal use and streaming Netflix. I must live in a bat cave because I havent noticed any glare from the panel, seems to be a common complaint.

For about 850 after tax, you cant find a better deal at this point in time, or probably at any point in the past. I remember laptop shopping a few years ago and I would have been paying at least 900 for a laptop with lesser specs (relative to its time) and crappy screen resolution. A sub $900 lappy with 1080p and tier 1 gpu (750M was tier one when I ordered my Y500) just did not exist until Lenovo came out with these Y500 deals. Not sure what the hate is about. If you wanna wait on Haswell go ahead but the deals on those machine are not in the near future. I cant imagine Lenovo dropping the prices on these Y500's any more than they already have.

[QUOTE=Korian;59546964]Not sure if this has been asked before, but I have a question about these newer notebooks/laptops that has been bothering me...

How does an i7 CPU keep cool, and fit in these newer notebooks/laptops?

I'm asking because in my Gaming Rig I have an i7-3820 3.6 Ghz processor and together with it's Cooling apparatus, well it's rather large.

Plus, how do they keep a chip of this magnitude cool? My old Toshiba laptop runs fairly hot and it has an Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T53004 1.73GHz - this Lenovo, with an i7 quad core must run extremely hot - are the internal parts compromised by this factor?

Just asking because I really don't know.

Thanks!

No clue about the internals but this surely helps:

Most likely a setting you need to change. The same thing happened on a friends MSI in fps games. Couldn't figure it out so he just reformatted and then it was fine.

Yes it was a setting, palm detection. I have to basically turn it to the lowest setting to play FPS games then it works fine, but otherwise it thinks its your palm hitting it and wont register the touch.

I am typing from my new y500 right now... I ordered mine on the 7th for 839 (same configuration as this deal) and received it this afternoon. I used free shipping method. Apparently they had one ready to ship immediately even though the website said it would not be ready until the 10th.

I am loving this sytem so far. It is super fast and runs quiet and cool. I am not impressed with the touchpad but I knew that it was going to suck. Just google it if your not aware. It is quite touchy but I found that backing off the sensitivity has helped make it into a manageable annoyance at worst. Everything else about this pc is fantastic though. The screen is just sublime! I cannot ever go back to a low resolution laptop again. 1080p is amazing in the 15inch. It has been holding right around 125F on the cores when surfing and around 150F when gaming. GPU runs around 100 idle and 150 when gaming. All of this was while it sat on my lap so cooling was probably hindered a bit.

I bought this system as a desktop replacement/ new semi-portable laptop... and that seems to be exactly what it is. The build quality is very good and the overall feel is very sturdy. It does have some weight to it so keep that in mind if you want to carry it around every day. I havent tried it yet but I read that this system will drive two external monitors and the internal display at once. That was a huge selling point for me as I need the ability to run dual displays for a desktop setting. Just need to get a monitor that supports HDMI now...

I had originally planned to replace the 16gb ssd with a larger one to run the OS but after playing with this thing I dont see a need. Boot times are very fast and I honestly couldnt justify spending $100+ to boost the performance of this system how it sits here now.

Just an update. The difference of ~$35 with this deal and the previous one that I jumped on was finally credited back to my card. Took about a week for them to process but no issues at all. Simple price match process and they were nice to work with.
I am very happy with this laptop so far. I have gotten used to the touchpad and find it to be very manageable now. Still not perfect but manageable.
Runs cool, decent battery life for what it is. Awesome performance and awesome 1080p.

Wow. UPS absolutely destroyed my laptop in transit. This thing is shipped in the laptop box itself which basically isn't padded at all. UPS managed to somehow stab through and just wreck the machine.

Of course, to get a replacement from Lenovo, I'll have to wait a month. Obviously.

Was the laptop damaged too or just the box?

The box and laptop were damaged. The laptop itself is dented.

The guy at Lenovo told me it wasn't supposed to be sent in the laptop box itself, but rather inside another box with packing peanuts. They're letting me keep this one till a replacement comes; hopefully this one sent in the "correct" manner.

The laptop itself is great, but how they shipped it was not. I understand that Lenovo isn't responsible for what UPS does, but seriously, shipping a machine worth almost a thousand dollars that is barely protected isn't a good idea.

They're letting me keep this one till a replacement comes..........so you need to return that after the replacement? But the laptop is dented.....and still working?!?!? EEK!

Instead of them having me send mine back first, then sending me a replacement, they're sending me a replacement, and when I receive it, I'll be sending my current (dented) one back.

The one I got is kinda banged up, yeah. It seems to be working okay from what I can tell although the screen might have a slight bump in it from one of the dents. I hate to feel nitpicky since it seems to be working, but I spent over $800 on this, I should probably get one that's brand new. And clearly, Lenovo is fine sending me a replacement.

Gave my credit card details through the chat on Lenovo's website. Not a secure connection (No SSL, https, etc). Got a call today from my credit card company about fraudulent/unauthorized charges that occurred over the weekend. Can't say for sure it was from Lenovo but interesting coincidence.
