This story was so-so in my opinion. The concept was really good, but the book got really boring a few chapters in and it never really felt like much happened. The 'gay' stuff was way milder than I expected (given that one of Hugh's motivations for writing the book was the coming out of a relative) and was handled tastefully though it got a tiny bit preachy at the end. All in all, a decent read, NOT up there with the Silo series, but for a buck, if you like Hugh, support him with a decent read.
the main reason i compare it to the silo series, would be the potential. much like the silo series, there is so much more than can be done. also like the silo series, if it were the first book of something larger, it makes since that it is as light as the first short story from wool was. the biggest difference being that the potential of "halfway home" is exponentially larger than the silo series.
