Can't speak for the consumer line, but Latitudes/Precisions are the best laptops you can buy. Unmatched 3 year warranty is unreal.
I don't get Dell bashing at all. Also, still use a 6 year old DV6000 from HP that has been abused beyond belief that works just fine.
Personally, leaving all the fancy glass touchpads out, I thought the keyboard (layout + feel) and touchpad on the dv6000 was the best I've ever seen (and no, I haven't just tried that one laptop.)
I'm just crazy I guess.
P.S. To add to my 'crazy' streak, I do think the cheaper Ideapads fall apart ridiculously quickly. I have 3 friends who have had their G-series lenovos become unusable in 1.5-2 ish years.
There's no way I can make this comment without coming off as a troll, but cross my heart, none of this is made up.
You really lucked out with the dv6000. My friend wasn't as lucky. To be fair though, it wasn't HP as much as it was NVIDIA and their defective chips but HP certainly didn't handle it like they should and they continued to sell the product after they learned of the issue. They extended the warranty time a bit but for people like my friend where the problem didn't occur until shortly after this extended period it rendered her $1500 laptop a paperweight.
