The deal changer here was the square-trade insurance that costco offers on the phones.

Better than all the rest for the price. I'll sell the crappy extras on ebay.
I personally preferred the Geek Squad protection from Best Buy. It protects your phone pretty much of everything EXCEPT theft or a lost phone. Only $10 a month with NO DEDUCTIBLE and there's no limit on the amount of claims per year.

I paid in full for 2 years of protection saving me $70 vs. paying $10 a month.

For AT&T customers, can you keep your unlimited data plan by upgrading through Costco? I'm on the iPhone plan and want to jump ship for the S4. The website seem to make me pick a new data plan... :-/
Are you selecting the "upgrades" tab on the top middle? If you are and you're getting asked to select a plan it most likely means you will not be able to keep your unlimited plan. However, I will double check with AT&T.

I have a friend with Verizon that pays full prices for phones so he doesn't loose his unlimited plan with them.

Good luck!

Does anyone know if best buy price matches on contract phones
Yes, they did it for my S4, but they refused to throw in the accessories. However, they did not want to price match me.

I had to politely ask the sales rep for store manager so that he would price match the S4 - which he did.

The Sales rep later told me that I got lucky because Best Buy already wants to get rid of the price matching program and that they only price match cell phone's when it's directly from the phone carrier.

I would still try it. I am pretty sure you will get the price match.

Also does Costco have its own ETF I want to upgrade one of my lines and switch the phone over to another line
No, Costco does not have its own ETF. I did exactly what you wanted to do for my cousin a few months ago and at least Sprint doesn't have a problem with you doing that. I also did this with my new S4 in Best Buy 2 weeks ago. I upgraded my brother in laws line, but I switched it over to mine.

Can you start a new line, cancel it, pay the ETF,and use it on another line fine?
At least with Sprint I can tell you 100*

At least with Sprint I can tell you 100% - YES. I would also imagine you should be able to do this with any other carrier since the phone is not reported stolen and the ETF was paid for. However, I would recommend checking with your provider.

With Geek Squad protection from Best Buy you pay NO DEDUCTIBLE. However, it does not cover theft or lost phones.

They do have a great app for android and apple called "geek squad" to locate your phone at no additional fee. With this app, you can see your phones location, make it scream, lock, take video and pictures from your lost or stolen phone to see the thief who took your phone and finally if retrieval is impossible - delete all the data on your phone.

Sorry, for some reason they don't have t-mobile.

My understanding is that t-mobile doesn't do any more contracts and makes their customers pay the full price for new phones.

For example, tmobile.com has the S4 for $149 down and 24 payments of $20.

True, but most plans that allow full replacement are MUCH more expensive. I have mine rooted with a location app on it. I hope that day never comes!

Best buy does not cover water immersion, costco does. Best buy costs $240 over 2 years, costco costs $99. Costco has a $25 deductible, but can used 4 times, Best Buy can be used ONLY ONCE.

So for $199 at costco, i can dunk 4 phones in water and get full replacements. For $240 at Best buy, I can get single replacement for damage (and it says "if it was being used as intended").

Best buy is a joke. I don't even shop there to look at items I want to buy on the internet.
