Thread Details

Was going to see what promos were available on my dish network, when I saw that they are now offering a free Ipad 2 16gb with a hopper upgrade.

I'll update if if can apply to current customers, I don't have a hopper but may upgrade with a free ipad.

Usual conditions: 2 yr contract...

Maybe we can see if we can add other options, promos, referrals, etc.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- DISH, a leading pay-TV provider, today announced it is offering new subscribers the choice of an iPad 2 instead of first year programming discounts for customers who sign up for the Hopper with Sling® Whole-Home HD DVR and a qualified programming package. This will give new customers a comprehensive TV anywhere experience driven by the Hopper entertainment platform. Customers can watch all their live TV, DVR recordings and On Demand shows using the popular iPad tablet anywhere. (Viewing requires Wi-Fi connection or use of Hopper Transfers™ app.) The Hopper with Sling and iPad offer begins May 22, 2013 and runs through September 18, 2013.

According to Dave Shull, executive vice president and chief commercial officer at DISH, this offer is another example of how the company's innovative service offerings and technological advancements are changing the way people watch TV.

"Hopper transforms consumers' computers, smartphones and tablets, into TVs allowing them to watch, anytime, anywhere. Now, with our Hopper and iPad offer, for the first time ever we've bundled together everything people need for the true TV EverywhereTM experience. Providing this device ensures new customers can fully experience all the benefits Hopper offers."

DISH has developed a collection of iPad apps that enhance and extend the DISH television experience anywhere. DISH mobile apps include:

DISH Anywhere™ — Watch live TV, DVR recordings and on-demand programs anywhere with an Internet connection. Viewing is enabled by Sling technology built into the new Hopper with Sling.

Hopper Transfers™ — Move recorded television programs from the DVR to iPad for times when an Internet connection is not available.

DISH Explorer™ — An intuitive second-screen app for the Hopper that combines program-discovery tools, social media engagement and remote-control capabilities.

DISH's apps are free to download and available from the App Store.

DISH's Hopper platform provides customers more choice and control over the TV they watch. Only the Hopper gives customers the power to:
•watch all their live and recorded TV anywhere, anytime
•record up to six different primetime shows at the same time
•skip commercials when viewing recorded primetime shows from the four major networks the day after airing, and
•store up to 500 hours of HD or 2,000 hours of SD programs.

DISH introduced Hopper with Sling in January at the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show. The cutting-edge set-top box won the CES 2013 "Best of Show" award. Hopper with Sling also was recognized with the PCMag "Editors' Choice" award and 5 out of 5 stars.

I pay $27.72 a month for the 120 package, and if i was to sign up and get the ipad, its at least an extra $23 a month. $23 for 24 months = $552 for an ipad.....no thanks

So how much does this cost per month with all the fees they add for the hopper and other stuff?

Also "
•skip commercials when viewing recorded primetime shows from the four major networks the day after airing, "
So does the hopper work differently than the regular standard def dvr? As it is now I can fast forward through all the commercials right after/during recording. Also can you still pause the tv and then fast forward through all of the commercials or did they change this?

Burton560, according to the website [dish.com], the promotional pricing is only for 12 months. so $23 for 12 months = $276.

At least that's how I understand it. And that's how the guy I talked to explained it. It's in the fine print at the bottom - promotional pricing only good for 12 months.

Do they offer internet like comcast? I currently pay way too much for my comcast and have been looking for a great deal on switching services.

Edit* I will also be moving in 6 months to a place that may not allow a dish, would that mean that I can cancel my account or would I have to pay out?

Do you live w/ anyone, or by yourself? What I do, is go to the local Best Buy that has a Comcast kiosk in there. I sign up for the double play, that includes TV/internet, 1 HD DVR box, 1 HD box, 1 regular box, and pay a grand total of $58/mth (I bought my own modem to save $7/mth)

That lasts 1 year. After the year is up, your prices will start going up, but at that point, I have my girlfriend put a new account in her name at our address and setup an appointment. Once that appointment is scheduled, I cancel a day or two before. So we pay $58/mth and go w/o TV/internet 1 or 2 days a year.

Wasn't sure if it was like my gym 2 year contract that I was able to get out of in 1 year because there were no locations in the state I moved to.

As a 12 yr customer called and complained and got 12 months $30 off my bill and they're overnighting me a sling adapter for free. Did not have to renew contract either. Quite satisfied for 10 minutes of complaining.

I too have had their service for about 14 yrs. now. What did you complain about to get that discount and the sling adapter?

I tried this Friday night and got shot down. I upgraded to the Hopper on May 15, 2013. I kindly asked if I was available for an iPad since I paid $99 for the upgrade price just a few months back and they announced this just after that. I don't check deals at all on Dish Network and I had no idea this deal was even going on until I saw a TV commercial Friday night for the first time. I immediately logged online to Dish, complained I paid $99 to upgrade to the Hopper, my bill went up about $10 a month with the extras you have to pay to have the Hopper and I got nothing, not even a free movie channel.

After probably 20 minutes of him-hawing around they did the usual. "We're sorry, we can't add this to your account as it's a current promotion for people that don't have the Hopper and you already do. But, I can offer you HBO free for 3 months if you'd like"

I swear, that's Dish's response to anything. They tell you no and to make you feel better they offer you a random movie channel free.

Any other way I could try to get this deal? How the heck did you upgrade for free?!? I tried and tried saying I'd been with Dish for years. My previous Dish box actually fried and they sent me a brand new one free, then I decided I'd just upgrade but had to pay $99. Then I even bought the USB internet deal for WiFi.
