Word of caution from banjolaya on post #77:

Word of caution: Before you buy OOMA go to pingtest.net and test your packet loss, ping and jitter.
If you have any packet loss - this might not be for you.
If you have high ping - OOMA might not be for you.
If your jitter is greater than 5 - this is definitely not for you.
There are multiple postings online about OOMA and jitter. The problem comes and goes. Some say it's your IP provider's fault (faulty lines leading to your home), IP provider customer service says - It's not us, it's your modem. You can google this issue and you'll find that some people had real problems with it (myself included).

There is a $80 Device Reactivation fee
http://www.ooma.com/legal/rates

That's why there is no market for used Ooma.

And I think people mentioned that any new activation will include taxes/fee. Doesn't matter what "new" device you try to activate.

should i switch over from mj+.? Magic jack support blows hard and their dongle has been acting up. How is the call quality and support with ooma?

Also i have a magic jack plus overseas which i use to make free international calls to. Except as of recently it no longer recieves calls and can only dial out because of isp voip blocking. Can ooma be used as a us landline overseas? Has anyone tried?

Sort of. You need to pay local taxes. If you go to the Ooma Web site, you're able to estimate the monthly taxes for your area.

I have a much older Ooma system before the taxes came into affect. I pay nothing at all, and I get free calls, caller ID, and voice mail. It's awesome. As long as my box keeps working, I'll keep getting free for life...
I have the same deal.... surprised to find that others are now paying tax... what a great deal we got, way back when Smilie

Very tempting but... My wife and I have cellphones which unlimited talk. I usually Google Voice to make the call to Canada for free. Some one think do I really need this Ooma? Thanks.

we always use landline when at home as much as possible even with unlimited cell minutes. Our main concern is cell phone radiation, besides with ooma, we get much clearer conversation.

Thank you for your reply. The cell phone phone radiation, in this case, is not my considering due to it has not been proofed by scientist yet. I have no idea how clear conversation when using the Ooma service, but honestly, I have no problem with my cellphone conversation as well.

Any way, thank you for your reply with.

ooma rocks, way better than net talk. make sure when you hook it up to have the ooma router after your cable modem and then hook up your home network router. that way it has first priority to the bandwidth
