Word of caution from banjolaya on post #77:

Word of caution: Before you buy OOMA go to pingtest.net and test your packet loss, ping and jitter.
If you have any packet loss - this might not be for you.
If you have high ping - OOMA might not be for you.
If your jitter is greater than 5 - this is definitely not for you.
There are multiple postings online about OOMA and jitter. The problem comes and goes. Some say it's your IP provider's fault (faulty lines leading to your home), IP provider customer service says - It's not us, it's your modem. You can google this issue and you'll find that some people had real problems with it (myself included).

For those comparing ooma and obi, wouldn't it be fair to say ooma will be easier for most technology challenged folks to set up and use?

Anyone know how a return would work for non-members?

I was so hesitant on buying this, since I needed something that was 100% reliable, and I have to tell you, it was well worth it!

If you have DSL with intermittent disconnection DO NOT GET THE OOMA
If you have fiber optics GET THE OOMA

If your internet goes down, even for a brief second, it takes about 5+ minutes for ooma to get a signal, so its not for DSL, unless you have an outdoor splitter that splits the data and voice.

The only thing I would complain about this is the quality, it isnt the best, it does sound KIND of robotic, but vs $40 a month it makes no difference.

And also, immediately after porting my number I started to get swamped with telemarketers, it was never like this. I think ooma gives away your number so you become bothered with the calls and order premier service to block them out

I have been using Ooma since last 3+ years and never had this issue.
I am surprised by your experience.

What about call-forwarding as fallback when internet service fails for whatever reason (and it will!)--Ooma no longer includes call-forwarding in the basic plan and requires an upgrade to Premier?

Whats the big advantage to this over magic jack+ ?
It seems to be more $ per month and more $ upfront
Is the service that much better?

Not anymore, at least not for me. It is backordered though.

This product is backordered, and is expected to ship on 06/14/2013.

Will ooma work with my alarm system?
I'd like to know about this also. From what I've read, most alarm systems require a landline. Will Ooma work or does anybody know of a workaround? I appreciate any response. Thanks!

Awesome! Will try
I have an Ooma setup and a Brother MFC attached to it. There has never been a problem for incoming fax, but you may have to use *96, *97, or *98 and then the 10 digit telephone number when sending outgoing fax.

It was trial/error with mine; I ended up using *96. It depends on the amount of "noise" you have on your lines.
