Word of caution from banjolaya on post #77:

Word of caution: Before you buy OOMA go to pingtest.net and test your packet loss, ping and jitter.
If you have any packet loss - this might not be for you.
If you have high ping - OOMA might not be for you.
If your jitter is greater than 5 - this is definitely not for you.
There are multiple postings online about OOMA and jitter. The problem comes and goes. Some say it's your IP provider's fault (faulty lines leading to your home), IP provider customer service says - It's not us, it's your modem. You can google this issue and you'll find that some people had real problems with it (myself included).

will this work over 4G hotspot?

No recommended. Use pingtest.net to check.
You need to connect it to your incoming cable connection, I do not believe you can get it to work wirelessly.

Does anybody know what the warranty is on a refurbished model vs this costco one? I ordered this and a refurbished one and was wondering if it was worth keeping the refurbished one(through woot) or returning it and getting another one through costco?

I have an Ooma setup and a Brother MFC attached to it. There has never been a problem for incoming fax, but you may have to use *96, *97, or *98 and then the 10 digit telephone number when sending outgoing fax.

It was trial/error with mine; I ended up using *96. It depends on the amount of "noise" you have on your lines.
I doubt it is model specific but what model do you have?

I plan on hooking up my MFC 7680DW with this OOMA over Comcast Performance internet

TIA!

I have the MFC 5895CW; however, the fax issue I believe is universal to trying to send fax over VOIP lines. I don't remember the website that told me to try the *9? prefixes, but it seemed to help with my line issues...

You can hook the Obi to your phone jack in the wall, then plug all your other phones into the same jacks you used before. However, in my use, my cordless in the living room had a slight delay with all calls. Moved it closer to the Obi and fixed. My wiring may be to blame, but wanted to mention it. Obi is 100% free with Google Voice through the end of this year at least. But there is a e911 service for 0.80c/month you can get and I suggest it, as cell phones don't do 911 very well and accurately from what I've read. (others may have different information) The e911 does use normal phone lines and circuits, so you don't get the full 911 advantage I read about where in cases where phone lines are out of service, 911 will still work. Read something a few years ago that all VoiP providers had to notify customers about this. Just be aware. But at the price of the Obi, I went for it, did the porting to T-mobile first for free, then to Google Voice for $20... worth it so far, 2 months or so and going.
I know it is lost some where on this forum. Any links to port my # to t-mobile?

You just do it when you sign up for a T-Mobile account on their web site. They ask you if you want a new number or to port your existing.

It's pretty quick.. You will need to have some money on the SIM to get it to work though. They will call the phone to confirm it's you... then on over at Google, they will call the T-Mobile SIM number as well, you enter a number or two, then done. Took me 3 days total, but maybe because it was a weekend.

NVM. had to give my phone # and password over the phone. Seems weird to give username/password over the phone. Status = Already porting. Smilie

Ooma is giving excuses to release my number. First time request was rejected by simple reason - Information does not match their records. I had to call t-mobile and verified Name/address again and will see how it goes. Not happy with transfer out being rejected. Frown
