Allen Edmonds Park Avenue bounce

$280.78 (Amazon.com [amazon.com]) - $56.16 (20% Amazon Shoe Discount [amazon.com]) + F/S (Amazon Prime Free Trial [amazon.com]) = $224.62

I'm assuming that if you ended up here, you understand that Allen Edmonds Park Avenues typically range from $280 - $350 on an average day.

Amazon has an actually VERY impressive selection right now despite being only ion Black and Merlot. They got all lengths from 6.5 US to 13 US and most widths from 3A to 3E in stock. shake head

CA, AZ, KS, NY, ND, KY, PA, WA, TX will get taxed on this purchase vomit

I don't see how this is a great deal given the fifth avenue was going for $179 after coupons on Amazon last september
Cool story. Can I borrow your time machine? I want to get in on that deal.

We're all happy you got a better deal. Only problem is that it's not last September any more, and you can't assume that the old deal will come around again. Just about every good deal on this board has been better at some point in the past.

If there was a better deal at one time in history, that doesn't mean this isn't still a great value for the money.
I'm grateful for the collective memory of posts like these; I'd like to add the PAs to my stable, but knowing that they've gone cheaper tells me it's okay to wait for something about that range. Even if the new "best deal" is 10% higher than that $179, that's more than 10% lower than this current one.

The "that deal is dead; this is pretty good now" mentality rips us from any moorings by which we can judge deals by anything other than retail.

How are these to Cole Haan? All my shoes are Cole Haan but I would be willing to try a different brand.
allen edmond's is significantly better in all respects relative to cole haan (except price of course)

Let's see how many get this analogy: If Cole Haan's were a fancy calculator, then AEs would be an HP-12C Smilie

AE shoes are great! Got myself a black PA and a Macallister in walnut. If you're going to get any wingtip, I highly recommend it in any shades of brown. It shows the details much better than black. I'm holding out for the Nordstrom sale to grab myself a brown PA.

Fwiw, I got my Macallister from AE two months ago when they have it on sale for 235

I bought these shoes a week ago and wore it two work days(8 hrs each) with a day apart... I immediately started noticing huge wear out on outer sole? Is that very common for leather sole?

This is my first not-cheap dress shoe purchase and I'm really wondering whether I was sold dummy..

Reporting price trends is one thing. My issue was him questioning how this could be a great deal, since there was better one last year. This is still a great deal regardless.

OK, I'll do the math for you. I was planning to purchase a pair at a local AE today. They are $345 in store and currently $295 via web. Note that via web I wouldn't get them until July --after a big event I am hosting. But let's go with that price anyway. Total price via Amazon was $273.34. So, then there's tax. Amazon = zero for me. Through AE, it's 6% or $17.70. That means this SD post saved me $39.36. Maybe you don't care about ~$40. Maybe your $179 was a super awesome deal. But nonetheless this post deserves a TU...

That's totally normal with leather sole shoes. My Wolverines end up that way. My Aldens end up that way. And the AE's will be no different.

What's a good way to determine which size to buy? I see 11 different sizes that are in the rough size that I usually wear (11-11.5, depending on brand).

There are two major sales coming up, a seconds sale [aetentsale.com] and Nordstroms semi-annual sale [nordstrom.com]. Expect these prices and more.

You should be able to pull some PA and Strands for about $220 from Nordstroms. A few bucks more isn't too bad.
Actually there's two sales coming up at Nordstroms

Question: When are Nordstrom's sale events?

Answer:

Nordstrom holds Half-Yearly Sales for Women and Kids in May and November. Also, there are Half-Yearly Sales for Men in mid-June and late December. Our biggest sale of the year—the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale—is held each July. This event has become legendary among Nordstrom customers nationwide who enjoy outstanding savings on the most exciting new fall merchandise before the season starts.

In-Store and Online Sale Dates
• Half-Yearly Sale for Women and Kids—starts Wednesday, May 22
• Half-Yearly Sale for Men—starts Friday, June 14
• Anniversary Sale—starts Friday, July 19 and ends Sunday, August 4
• Half-Yearly Sale for Women and Kids—starts Wednesday, November 6
• Half-Yearly Sale for Men—starts Wednesday, December 25 online, and Thursday, December 26 in-store
If memory serves, the "Half Yearly Sale for Men" usually has a better selection than the "Anniversary Sale" (makes sense, stock goes down after the first sale), so keep your eyes peeled this Friday.

Also just FYI, there have been reports (on StyleForum) from people in the past who have bought Allen Edmonds shoes from department stores only to find that they are seconds (there is usually a mark on the sole of the shoe to designate seconds quality).

220 for PA, Strand, McCallister firsts is a great deal. For seconds, its actually not that bad considering seconds normally go for 269 from the Shoe Bank.

Size is important in AE....why buy a super comfortable and long lasting shoe in the wrong size? I would suggest running out to a place that carries them and trying them on. Especially, to anyone beyond 50 or so, you have probably noticed your shoe size has changed. Dont expect to be wearing an 11 medium you wore at 30 at 55 Frown

To those who are comparing these to "italian made" and wondering why the price of AE's is high, just google "Goodyear welting."

Nah my PA and Sanfords started doing that too, even with 2-3 days in between. If you're really concerned you can take them to a cobbler and ask for toe and/or heel taps.

On the main website they have an interactive "sizing guide"
http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonl...&storeId=1

People have had mixed results with this. For me personally, it was pretty accurate. I am an 8E using their measuring tool, when I went to an AE B&M and got sized by their staff, it came out the same.

FYI the 565 last, i.e. the PA, strand, mccallister, first ave, is their narrowest and longest shoe, I had to size down to a 7.5E for a perfect fit. I am an 8E in the 4 last which is their average length and girth shoe.
