If memory serves, the "Half Yearly Sale for Men" usually has a better selection than the "Anniversary Sale" (makes sense, stock goes down after the first sale), so keep your eyes peeled this Friday.
Also just FYI, there have been reports (on StyleForum) from people in the past who have bought Allen Edmonds shoes from department stores only to find that they are seconds (there is usually a mark on the sole of the shoe to designate seconds quality).
220 for PA, Strand, McCallister firsts is a great deal. For seconds, its actually not that bad considering seconds normally go for 269 from the Shoe Bank.
That seconds from department stores is just that, a rumor.
If by Alfani you mean the Macy's house brand, in terms of size I find that Alfani's tend to run small (i.e. I normally wear a 13 in most brands and need a 14 in Alfani). I typically wear Ecco which uses Europrean sizes (so I wear a 47); for AE I wear a 13B (slightly narrow) for my Park Ave.
If you're asking in terms of quality of shoe, there's no comparison between Alfani and AE. Allen Edmonds are built to last, and they look very professional.
One thing to note on the Park Avenue (and Strands) is that Allen Edmonds uses a harder sole (cork, I think), so if you're coming from a brand like Ecco (which uses an insole), it may take some getting use to. I was talking to the sales rep at one of their stores and he actually recommended their orthotic line for folks who like a softer shoe. My next pair will likely be the Winter Park if I can ever find it on sale...
Not sure if this was already posted, but Allen Edmonds offers a PDF[allenedmonds.com] you can print out to determine your shoe size and width. Just be sure that you don't do any scaling of the PDF when you print it (it gives you the dimensions of the chart to confirm it with a ruler), and it works very well -- what I measured was exactly what they told me in store.
