WARNINGS ON FREEDOMPOP:
A couple things to be aware of with this company before you begin ordering.
1.) The moment you complete your order, is the moment your service starts. No, not when the package arrives at your door, it starts NOW. Yes, they are fully aware that you cannot use the service at all without the device yet, but that's just to cut away your free trial time.

“Delayed device shipments” -Demand for new devices has been ridiculous and we have been on backorder for several weeks. The good news is we have received new inventory and will start shipping this week. There has been additional concern that backordered users will have less time to use extra free data provided in the 1st month. This is not true. Plan period will start after the shipping date (not the purchase date).
2.) Even if you attempt to downgrade your plan, WATCH YOUR ACCOUNT. I "downgraded" from my free 2GB first month plan to the $3.99 500MG 3G/4G plan, more than a week before my free month ended, but they still attempted to charge my card for the $19.99 2GB plan. It took about two weeks after I contacted them via email to get them to refund the charge to my account (which they said they did). However, my account still reflects the 2GB data plan. I assume the same will happen in my next billing cycle, as they have not attempted to charge me for the $3.99 yet. This is not uncommon and I'm not the only person to have "billing issues" with these guys due to "technical difficulties" on their site.
3.) Regarding #2 you should use a prepaid card which has a limit of money you use to load on it, or you should use a VCC (Virtual Credit Card) # provided by your bank (Citibank, BankOfAmerica, and Discover offer this on their credit cards. Check your account), and close the number out for the first month, just to see if they attempt to do the same thing they did to my account. If they don't try to bill you incorrectly, then simply open a new VCC# and add it the next month, when the card declines.
4.) You are auto-enrolled in a "top-up" feature. If you opt for the 500MB free plan, (or any other plan) within 100MB of you reaching your limit (so 400MB out of 500, or 1.9GB out of 2GB, etc.), your card will automatically be topped up with $10 to cover overage of your plan, once it surpasses your limit to "not disrupt your data usage". If you don't want a nasty surprise, it's best to turn this off.
5.) You cannot downgrade to the free plan on their website anymore. You must call customer service. If you attempt to do this on their "contact us" page on their website, you'll notice there's no 800#. Anywhere. If you click the "Call an Agent" button, you're asked to pay $3.99 for VIP support. DON'T DO THAT. Their 800 number is 1-888-743-8107 or 1-888-731-1555
Another number: "you can call us M-F 9am-5pm pacific time by calling (888) 714-7328. It's a phone number we created just for slickdeal users who are trying to get a hold of us. "
Yet another number (from the first post): Call (888)9668172 to downgrade.
Sometimes if you email them they'll downgrade you in email, but usually they'll just tell you to call them.
6.) If you are going to be travelling or something, and are on the "Free plan", be aware there is a $0.99 "maintain active status" fee for any month you do not use at least 5MB of data. Keep this in mind for those of you that plan to just shove this in a drawer and only use it when you're on the go.
Their blog says that they're getting rid of the fee "going forward"
7.) A lot of people still successful with the first post link. Clear your browser cache. But don't click directly, copy the link, paste to your address bar.
8.) Chargers/batteries - looks like a lot of 3G devices are being sent without working batteries or chargers. Seems that if you contact their email@example.com they will just send you a replacement for free.
