So what did the results look like from golf tec? Launch angle, spin, ball speed, all that.Did the guy giving the fitting/lesson have any recommendations? Did you hit any other drivers that day? Is your swing on youtube?
Another suggestion is to try a bunch of different shafts. What type of shaft is in the magregor? Weight? Not all shafts are created equal. A speeder TS stiff will feel a lot stiffer than almost any other stiff on the market. Maybe you're used to the feel of a soft shaft, so you might want to look at stiffer flex shafts with softer butt sections. That will give you the feel you're used to and a lot more consistency at the same time. I've never seen your swing, but I would bet a lot of money that the reg flex is not ideal for you.
But swing speed is the most important information for a jumping off point. That puts you in the ballpark right away and then you can start looking at the other deciding factors, mainly the shaft load. Players who load the shaft harder during transition and into the downswing need stiffer flexes to maintain consistency. Players with 110+ speed are no doubt loading the shaft enough to at least play warrant a stiff, it's almost impossible for them not to.
My point is, it's very hard to believe that anyone who has PGA Tour speed(110+) is ideally fit for a regular shaft, if they were, why are there no regular flex players on tour? A reg flex shaft flex is simply too inconsistent at that speed.
Agreed. It's a good starting point, I just wanted to add that someone who's serious about a proper fitment will do it based on a lot more variables than swing speed. I also wanted to mention to the others that a stiff flex on a "made for" shaft tends to play a lot weaker than advertised. My stiff on the stock R1 shaft felt like a noodle and my drives were all over the place, which is why I switched it out with a stiff Matrix Black Tie 6M3 and my results have been much better.
And yes, a regular flex for someone with 110+ SS would indeed be abnormal (I guess if it was a heavier shaft with a high kickpoint, maybe it could work...don't see too many R flex like that though)
