Thread Details

Apologies if this thread exists already, I haven't found it if it does.

Purchased from B&M today.

Per previous thread, Costco still features the "old" version of T-Mobile Plans. This means that for those nefarious slickdealers, you can get the phone for $149, then soon after pay $200 early termination fee, giving you the S4 out of contract for $349 + Taxes

All Costco phones come with an accessory kit which includes car charger, sceen protector, and some useless stuff as well.

They also have a coupon for $30 off "unlimited" data plan.

For those worried about 16GB, this phone has an expandable memory slot, so you can cheaply add another 64GB if needed.

If you dont already have a Costco membership, they offer refunds for those who purchase membership and decide to cancel it.

I have $10 data on my current plan and a week ago when talked with a sales man at Costco he said I can keep my current talk and data plan as is and can upgrade to S4, but online their website is forcing to sign up minimum of $30 data plan, is it the case for every body?
In my case (AT&T) after upgrading the device I had to sign-up for the new data plan; my old plan was not carried over to the new device (I bought in-store in Costco)

149.99 - phone
13.87 - tax for my local zip
163.86 TOTAL

60.00 - unlimited talk & text
20.00 - 2.5GB data plan [required]
90.00 - Total incl. taxes

so 163.86 + 90.00 + 200.00 [ETF] = 453.86 to get an S4 after a month of service and paying the ETF

not bad....but the hassle is of dealing with TMobile might be the biggest headache...but then after downgrading the plan to their newer plans or even the $30 walmart plan, it's all worth it...

I got my unit for $475 without the hassle of dealing with Tmobile or Costco..
I think you have to pay tax on the etf as well.

I talked to two representative from the Wireless Advocacy and both said that I can cancel the service anytime and keep the phone. They explained that 90 is the return/exchange period.

Sales reps will tell you anything you want t hear, because there is no recourse for them, unless you get a written, signed and sworn statement from them.

What will matter is the contract you sign. So, read it very carefully.

Why did I get taxed off the $580 MSRP, not off the $150 sale price? So I had to put up $44.xx for tax, instead of just $13.xx? Is it just me? I'm curious so I went online at costco.com and added this http://www.costco.com/SHARP-AQUOS...32627.html which has discount of $2200 and what do you know? It charges me tax off the before discount price

Subtotal: $9,699.99
Less Promo Code: ($2,200.00)
Shipping & Handling: $0.00
Tax: $921.50
Order Total: $8,421.49

Why costco? I bought stuff from bestbuy or B&N, like the Nook HD+ on sale for $150, MSRP $270, and I just pay tax off the $150, so just $13.xx instead of $25.xx

I plan on keeping the contract for awhile so I haven't tried it. But per rep. at the store, I would be able to cancel the contract and keep the phone, I would only be required to pay the early term. fee. Per the contract I received, I don't see any requirement to return the phone in the 90 day period either, I only see early term. fee of $200 if there is 180 days or more left on the contract.

The only reference to 90 days is that Costco has a 90 day return policy on the phone (vs 14 days thru TMobile directly). However if you elect to return the phone but it is after 14 days, TMoble would still not let you out of the contract without paying the $200 early term fee. The practical benefit of this policy is that you could decide between day 15 and 90 that you don't like that particular phone and could get another phone, for example HTC One or another smartphone instead.
he clearly said online and you clearly said at the store...one is not like the other

Can you buy the phone/plan at costco and then pay a migration fee of 200 dollars to a simple choice plan ?
I've read complaints of people not allowed to do so right away, they were told to wait x months, so YMMV

I think it is by state law(said by rep at Costco), according to him CA, MN and few other states has a law to charge tax on MSRP even if there is a instant rebate. I live in MN and yesterday I got two phones from Costco and I too paid tax on $580. But Samsclub and Walmart are charging tax on only sale price which is $200, still it is little expensive than Costco after tax and you will a free accessory kit from Costco.

That's the thing, if it's a state law, why only on costco? Not on sams club, nor best buy? sams club is also a warehouse.

I think it depends how the vendor show discount in the invoice, rep said discount is a rebate but Costco is giving that as instant.

this is an excellent deal for the S4 right now (albeit with a little bit of work involved). why didn't this get like 5 thumbs up?

Has anyone actually tried this? In theory it's a good deal but it says pretty explicitly on the wirelessadvocates page "If for any reason you cancel your service or your service is terminated within 90 days of activation, the handset(s) you purchased must be returned in accordance with this return policy so we can continue to offer a value to Costco.com customers.".
