Thread Details

Apologies if this thread exists already, I haven't found it if it does.

Purchased from B&M today.

http://membershipwireless.com/ind...ctId/10221

Per previous thread, Costco still features the "old" version of T-Mobile Plans. This means that for those nefarious slickdealers, you can get the phone for $149, then soon after pay $200 early termination fee, giving you the S4 out of contract for $349 + Taxes

All Costco phones come with an accessory kit which includes car charger, sceen protector, and some useless stuff as well.

They also have a coupon for $30 off "unlimited" data plan.

For those worried about 16GB, this phone has an expandable memory slot, so you can cheaply add another 64GB if needed.

If you dont already have a Costco membership, they offer refunds for those who purchase membership and decide to cancel it.

Has anyone actually tried this? In theory it's a good deal but it says pretty explicitly on the wirelessadvocates page "If for any reason you cancel your service or your service is terminated within 90 days of activation, the handset(s) you purchased must be returned in accordance with this return policy so we can continue to offer a value to Costco.com customers.".
that's why it's better to do it in store and might still be a YMMV...

Someone posted in this thread or another thread that Costco charges their own ETF on top of the t-mobile ETF if you purchased online. So looks like in store is the only option anyways.

I think you gotta factor in activation fee as well. It's "free" because they credit it back to you in the 2nd/3rd month of service, but since we're cancelling well before that we don't get it back.

the tax on the retail price also occurs in CA. i know because this is what they did to me when the S3 came out.

Now I have a question,

I can't do this online because it is requiring me to get a $30 data plan

When i did this same plan for the S3. I'm on the tmobile value plan. and only paying $10 for "unlimited" data for smart phone (you know the 2GB cap then slowed down)

Can i go to Costco B&M and have the rep do this for my old plan with my current data.

I know that also on the value plan they offer $20 "truly unlimited" data no cap as fast as you want, but 2GB has been good

EDIT: because i see it also the same price for "UPGRADE" price

ha ha ha ha ...you really think they'll let you walk away anytime with you keeping the phone?
This subject has been covered on mobile forums and many deals sites. This is the main reason why ATT/Verizon/Tmo/Sprint raised their ETF from 150 to 200 to 250 to 300 ....etc..this is to cover the expense of ever increasing smartphone prices.

The KEY to this deal/OP post is that Costco is still offering "old-tmobile plans" combined with a ETF $200 (lower than other carriers)

AT&T S4 would be $200 + $325 ETF = $525 + 1 month service
T-Mo S4 $150 + $200 ETF = $350 + 1 month service

If you pay for ETF..that lets you "break" your contract with them. On the "old plan", your contract is for 2 yr SERVICE agreement. The "new plan"..your contract is the payment plan for the device.

....but then again, there are other ways / venues of procuring this device...

According to some posters here you can't cancel the service within 90 days of the purchase. So it be more like:

T-Mo S4 $150 + $200 ETF = $350 + 3 month service

So $60 for talk & text but an additional $20 for 2gb data? Am I missing something? I thought their plans were $60 for unlimited everything?

yes it is. but the unlimited data gets slowed down after 500mb....have you to pay more to get more high speed data.

other wise who knows they slow it down to 2g speed.

Saw it asked earlier, but Best Buy WILL price match to Costco. They knew about the price before I even pulled out the print out of the total in cart from Costco website.

But this offer makes you pick a data plan of $20 or more thus making the monthly fee no less than $80? I still don't get it (and won't if I have to pay $80-90/mo, if I did consider paying that much, I'd go with Verizon)

Has anyone successfully gotten a phone like this?

If so, how much did you pay exactly?

Was it hard to do?

Should I get the GS4 or wait for the Note 3?

Yea, it would be great to know if the phone can be cancelled with only $200 ETF

I too just talked briefly over the phone with a local Costco wireless advocates rep (in CA). She confirmed what others have said: you get to KEEP the phone as long as you don't cancel your contract within the first 14 days, and you have to pay a $200 Early Termination Fee.

She also told me that the cheapest plans are $90 per month. So I am expecting to pay $150 down payment + $200 ETF + $90 one-month service + taxes (probably on full retail value of $599).

I recommend spending a few minutes to read through your contract terms to be sure that you will not have to return the phone after you cancel your contract. I think it is likely that the online terms and the B&M terms are not the same. This is a great deal provided you don't have to return the phone and want to later downgrade to the "walmart" plan of $30/mo. Will update if I am successful (or if I even try Stick Out Tongue).
