Yes, the E18 will comes with HID features, so you can control the play/pause/previous/next in E18 without turn on the screen on Android phone.

The shape already decided, we now working in find a suitable DAC chip for it because too many FiiO model has WM8740. it is still very good, but

I am wondering whether we should choose a new DAC chip.

Massdrop is going to have the E17 for a few bucks cheaper but this will likely get to you faster.

Shipping seems to kill most Massdrop sales from what I've seen.

*edit - Looks like it will be $93 after shipping so I take that back.

What are you guys buying these to use with? iPhone's? I recall reading from headfi that this won't improve the sound fidelity of any portable music player that already has a good DAC (iPhones, iPod Touches) - it'll only make it louder. However, for the many phones don't have good DAC's this would make a difference (in addition to giving you more EQ options). Is my info dated?

You are more or less right. Unless your phone can make use of the DAC via either USB or optical then only the headphone amp is being used which only makes it louder, not better. If your phone does work with the DAC then it might be an improvement over your phone just depending on how good your phone is to start with.

Oh and the DAC will not work with iPhones (as far as I know). Only the headphone amp would work. So unless you have headphones that the iPhone can't power then the E17 doesn't make much sense.

Something like that...I think they said it's going to drop to 89$ or so +shipping in a few days if they get enough buyers.

Massdrop has had a few deals...the O2 amp sale was decent, the Aune T1, also good.

For those interested, the next model of the E17 is coming out later this year I do believe, but it will probably start out much much more expensive than this price.

iPhone specifically 4S has a very good DAC already and can't tell the difference when E17 is hooked up. Fostex and VMODA makes very good DACs but expensive.

VentureCraft [venturecraft.jp] is the actual manufacturer of the VMODA DAC/amps. If you don't need the "enhancements" of the VMODA versions, you can find some good deals on the VentureCraft branded units.
