Normally $79.99, now $59.99 at Costco thru 6/22. OOS online but is available in stores.

http://www.costco.com/Seagate-Bac...7821.html?

Can also be price matched at Staples.com or B&M if you do not have a Costco membership (thanks aznkidjt)

http://www.staples.com/sbd/cre/pr..._guarantee

I also tried my local Staples to use the 20% off coupon, and unfortunately, my store did not have the hard drive in stock (sold out from last week's sale). HOWEVER, the manager I spoke with said if they had it in stock, they would match the $59.99 Costco price, THEN allow me to use the 20% off coupon which would bring it down to $48 + tax. It will have to be a YMMV situation I assume depending on the manager.

Loved mine until it overheated and now is dead weight. Hoping a tech friend of mine can break the enclosure and the HDD is still good but not too optimistic. I've read others having same problem.

The store sign says it expires on 6/22 as well. This is the first time I've seen this drive on sale, especially for this low. I frequent Costco for work-related trips for the past year, and this is the best deal I've seen this go for.

The $20 off is an instant rebate, which like I mentioned, is the first time I've seen this happen to this particular drive.

yes, I know the OP said 6/22, sometimes the instore signs have different dates.

I will have a hard time making it to the store by 6/22, so I was just wondering if anyone happened to know...

I guess my followup question is, does this go on sale regularly?
I have noticed (in other departments at costco) that certain items have the 'instant rebate' with some regularity.
That I am not sure. Anyone have thoughts on this?

I assume you use the Seagate Thunderbolt Adapters? I'm looking into purchasing one, but so far, I'm only seeing it for sale for $90. Not sure if I'd really like to spend that much on an adapter to use thunderbolt just yet.

That is the part I love about these drives. Instant Thunderbolt drives with the Thunderbolt adapters.
I've standardized on these drives for my own use. eSATA, USB 3.0, Firewire, Thunderbolt, and whatever future adapter. What else can you ask for?

I will probably stock up on 4-5 of these drives.

Yep. They go on sale for $79 some times.
You can use bare drives with them. I use them with SSDs all the time. Standard SATA connector. Or buy blank USM cartridges which are enclosures similar to the Seagate enclosures. With reg drives, it may not be worth it but with SSDs, yes,

Amazon review on this model is much worse than seagate 1tb expansion. Strange

For anyone who bought one already, are these the USM version or the 'Fat' version that doesn't fit in USM slots?
I can't check the model number against the USM list on Seagate since the web page version only lists the costco item # (and it doesn't list USM in the features)

I've still got a unopened 1.5TB on the shelf from the last costco deal, but they are the Fat version so I'd be in for one if it was USM.

Thanks for the info!

Looking at my system now, it looks my iMac doesn't have thunderbolt, but my Macbook Air does... unfortunately, both doesn't have USB 3.0 either. I'm better off not getting a thunderbolt and just waiting til my system upgrades to when I have USB 3.0 to suit me.

Thanks again for the info on those adapters!

Thanks, they changed the USM page recently and it looks like all the Backup Plus Portable drives to 1TB are USM compatible (14.5mm drive cases and they added the USM-slim designation for 9mm drive cases)

Of course, manufacturers don't make these drives any different whether they are internal or external.

Some boards are soldered onto another PCB so that users can't plug in a SATA cable.
