Hi - it's secret lingo...after 50 posts you may be let in on the secret.

I'll give you a hint...it's the holy grail of kudos (even better than the Slickdeals Prize Closet!)

Welcome aboard by the way.

I guess I will provide a legitimate answer.

Anyways after you make fifty posts here, you may start giving someone positive reputation points. You automatically start with 10 reputation points and I could add on to that if I felt the need. Monkfish for example has 355 reputation points, meaning he received 345 points from people for deals he has posted, help he has done or etc.

The way to give a reputation point is to click on the reputation number that is under lined and add a comment.

while we're talking about reps here, how is it possible that people give +4 reps?

If you give someone Rep points, you cannot choose the number of points. The number of points your "Rep" counts for (+1, +2, +3, or +4) is determined by several factors -- how long you have been a member of SD's, how many posts or Rep points you have, etc.

Why do we start with 10 reps? Why not zero, or negative 5. Starting with a negative might give some people reason to make worthy posts Big Grin

Obligatory remark: Bring back the NERPS!

You might also want to read the 'SD FAQ megathread'that's at the top of this very forum Smilie. It has tons of information that's especially useful for new users (and for some of us not-so-new users too! Wink)

As for your particular questions regarding reps (aka Reputation Points), see this part of the above thread and it should answer most or even all of your questions, if you still have any remaining Smilie.
