From my personal experience I don’t even know if brand names matter much when it comes to luggage. I personally consider three things when it comes to luggage; weight (but not so light that it’s flimpsy), color (it’s a hassle trying to distinguish your luggage at the carousel), and durability and versatility. I’ve seen samsonite luggage that cost $300 and up at department stores and I’ve also seen samsonite luggage that cost $50-$100 at Ross, Marshalls and the likes and I can’t telll the difference between the two. I also had a friend that had a samsonite luggage that was damage and don’t be fooled by the lifetime warranty. You have to send it back to them and it can cost $20 and up to send a luggage so is it worth it. Me personally, I bought a no name brand carry on from Target that was on clearance for $15 over 5yrs. ago and I’m still using it without any problems. Probably one of the best bang for my buck ever.
I typically make 3-4 flights per week... when I started traveling that much, I got picky.

Weight is a factor, but fairly low on my list. When my bag's packed, that extra pound is negligible.

Color... good call.

Durability is pretty huge. Will the handle hold up? Especially on a spinner, when that sideways force stresses the extension joint. Are the wheels solid? I've seen people lugging spinners with broken wheels -- doesn't look like fun. Will the nylon stand up to shoving it in and out of overheads? The frames on my TravelPros are solid enough I can sit on them when they're empty. Try sitting on an empty 21/22" spinner from Samsonite, Revo, or SwissGear (owned them all).

There's also a 'soft' benefit to using nicer luggage. Travel professionals (airline staff, hotel staff, etc) know their luggage. Just like some people look at watches or suits, they'll look at luggage. They'll recognize a Tumi or TravelPro.

i got the Victorinox Avolve a few days back for $119 (posted it in another thread). i just got mine and love it...more expensive than this deal (and no additional bag), but it has amazing reviews.

I bought a cheap samsonite spinner from Marshalls a few years ago. A wheel broke off (due to rough airline handling) the very first time I used it. Given the sub-$100 cost, it was too much of a hassle to send back to Samsonite to fix. I threw it away and chalked the cost up to a lesson learned.

I've since purchased another samsonite set from Costco, which has been reliable but even it if does eventually break, I know that I can easily return to Costco.

According to their website, they measure edge-to-edge, and do not include wheels.

There's a chance this is over the 22" limit.

For what it's worth I have this piece and I've gone on around 10 trips in the last two years with it and I've not had an issue.

No doubt. I could probably carry a 25" onto Southwest without them saying anything.

Just out of curiosity, though, does it fit lengthwise or do you have to put it sideways in the overhead?
