Thread Details

Just looked into setting up internet at the place I'm moving too and found that I could order 15/5 internet for $39.99 a month no contract, price guaranteed for 12 months. Or 50/25 was $49.99, same deal, and 75/35 was $59.99.

I just went to customize your bundle, unchecked cable and phone.

Here is a pic of my order page:

This is YMMV, btw. The roommate who I'm moving in with came up with $49.99 on his computer for 15/5.

Um I need internet in the next 2 weeks, I can't wait until 2014...

And this is no contract so I guess I could cancel and get that instead when/if it becomes available.

BTW, I live in Tampa, FL.

With fees/taxes my monthly bill will be $43.99.

How were you able to just purchase internet? I've upgraded/changed FiOS services numerous times and have never been made aware of an only-internet option.

Currently I am paying around $55 incl. tax & fees for the Triple Play (50/25 + Voice + TV Select).
I live in LA county in California.

I have been to Hong Kong and just got back from London. It is disgusting how ISPs play games with consumers. If we drop them like a rock, they get the message and drop the prices.
15/5 internet should be sold PERMANENTLY at $30/mth. How on earth can they sell this speed at $75/mth after the promotion expires is outrageous. It costs a consumer $7/mth using their electricity to run FiOS

and you end up losing your favourite sport or channels after they revise the TV prime, extreme and ultimate schedules every other year moving your show to the more expensive bundles.

The other carriers are also doing the same, I am seriously looking at Hulu + and scaling down on devices that rely on heavy bandwidth.

Huffington Post already expose the nonsense going on between Comcast and Verizon.

My current Triple Play with Verizon expires in January. I have been debating signing up using my mother's name for a new bundle (as I don't give a crap about my Verizon email or phone number) or just dropping the cable and phone altogether and just getting standalone internet access.

I hate to ask stupid questions here, but how exactly is this a deal? I mean, it looks like you just went to their website, typed in your address and paid what they asked. i.e. not a deal.
Did you use a coupon code, some special deal, etc?

I pay a fortune for my 15/5, like 60 bucks a month. If I renewed my contract it would GO UP to 65 plus lock me in! I had wanted to move my interwebz jack and they wouldnt do it unless I signed a new contract. So I used a powerline adapter instead which worked great.

Thanks OP! Been waiting for something like this to show up. I had verizon fios before and loved it for the reliable internet speed, but had to switch back to time warner cable since it was a lot cheaper. With this being the same price as my current time warner bill, I will stick with verizon for 1 year and hope they will offer me the same price after the promotion is up.

*edit* forgot to mention I live in Southern California and was able to get the same price

I just got back from oversea trips myself. In Hong Kong and Europe, they got faster internet speed at cheaper price than what Americans got. Some Americans think we got the best in the world -- well, definitely not in internet packages sold by these corporations, we got one of the worst deals in industrialized nations.

I think this might be a regional promotion. I'm not completely sure but it seems to come up with different prices for other people so ymmv.
