Rebates Annonymous Thread - How much in rebates do you have outstanding? Lets help each other stay away from TDMVP's temptations. Let's also discuss ways to cash out rebate cards.
Hi my name is Super Ocean and I'm a Rebateaholic.
I've got over $2500 in outstanding rebates.
I've haven't bought a rebate item in 2 days.
I've looked at a lot of good items today like 850w psu with case for $42[tigerdirect.com] but didn't pull the trigger.
I've got more earbuds than I know what to do with.
Please feel free to join Rebate-aholics:

As noted in the fine print of the rebate form and on the card agreement sent to you with your card, you can request a check or an ACH transfer for the balance on your card(s). The card(s) must be unused. Call the the number listed next to your card above and select the option to talk to a customer service agent after entering your card number and verification code (option 5, then 0). Request a refund via check or ACH. Some agents will incorrectly tell you that ACH is not allowed or even that refunds in general are not permitted. Checks take up to 20 business days; ACH takes up to 15 business days but usually arrives in under 10 business days.
*** If you do this with multiple cards, be sure to DOUBLE CHECK the CSR's math! I would have been short $30 if I had not (they mistakenly entered $30 for a $60 card). FYI 15-20 cards took me ~40min on the phone.
FSV Payment Systems Visa Reward Cards (Parago)
If your card allows you to request a check, call the number listed next to your card above, then follow the prompts to talk to a CSR (press 1 after the Spanish prompt, enter the tracking number on the back of the card), press 1 again after it starts to say your card balance, then press 0). If you get a CSR who won't process the check, hang up and try calling again.
PIN-enabled Gift/Reward Cards - Load to Serve/Bluebird
Visit your local Walmart and hand your Serve/Bluebird card to the cashier. Tell them to load the amount that's on your prepaid card (you can also combine up to 4 cards and load them at once). You must make sure that the card is processed as debit - if it isn't, press Cancel (for the older black-and-white terminals) or Change Payment (for the newer color terminals) after swiping and before the cashier hits the Debit key on their keyboard.
Once the money's on your Serve/Bluebird card, you can either withdraw cash at a fee-free ATM or pay your CC bill from your account online (see each cards' website for more information). Maximum $1,000/day and $5,000/month.
Most retailers have the ability to "split transactions," where you can charge part of the total amount on one card and then pay the balance with another card or cash. Depending on the retailer and cashier, you can chain as many prepaid cards as you like. Known retailers that permit this are:
Walmart - Visa (cashier request, must press Cancel or Change Payment when the PIN prompt appears and select credit), American Express (automatic)
Costco - American Express only (automatic)
Target - Any card (automatic)
Kmart - Any card (automatic), unknown limit
Rainbow (MN/WI grocery) - Any card (automatically takes remaining balance)
Chick-fil-A - Any card (automatically takes remaining balance)
Staples - any card (automatically takes remaining balance)
Fill 'er up!
Most gas stations accept credit cards at the pump and some/many are set up to use the balance on the card without requiring a trip to the cashier. Regardless, you can always ask the cashier to help out with using the balance remaining of the card.
Convert the card into store credit
Most rebate cards have a short window to use up the card before it expires or monthly fees start kicking in to eat up the balance. Converting the rebate card into store credit allows you to extend the life of your money. Also, this option is useful if you have a very small amount remaining on the card. Ideally, you want to use store credit that can offer a rolling balance or do unlimited split transactions online. Options include:
Amazon.com - $0.50 minimum, never expires
Costco Cash - No minimum, never expires
Newegg - $10 to $2500 in $1 increments, never expires.
TigerDirect - $10 to $1000 in $1 increments. After 12 months a $2/month fee applies.
Use a online payment service to deposit into your bank account
There are several companies that will accept credit cards and turn them into cash. Some of these options, however, may charge a credit card processing fee and/or freeze the account if too many suspicious transactions are used.
Square - 2.75% fee. Free card reader for smartphone. Limited to <200 transactions or $20,000 per year to avoid a 1099.
PayPal Here - 2.7% fee. Free credit card reader for smartphone. Limited to <200 transactions or $20,000 per year to avoid a 1099.
Google Wallet - 2.9% fee (minimum $0.30)
Pay Utility Bills
Evolve Money - Popular bill pay service that accepts prepaid cards. Wide variety of payees to choose from.
Comcast - Allows you pay your bill or even pre-pay into your account using an card number that you enter for a one-time transaction. You don't have to register the card into your account and you can specify the exact amount you want to pay for that transaction so you can zero out the card exactly.
City utilities - Many cities allow you to specify the amount to pay and enter a card number for one-time use.
Sprint - You have to register the card into your account but then you can enter in a payment for specified amount and then delete the card from your account.
Use them at Redbox
Visa Reward cards work with Redbox. American Express Reward cards do not.

4MyRebate (TigerDirect, etc.) says an AmEx rebate card has been sent to me, but I didn't receive it.
If you're in this situation, 4MyRebate customer service may not be able to help you. They will refer you to American Express prepaid customer service at 1-800-297-7327 and tell you to have them look up the card by it's proxy number, which they claim is the confirm number on your rebate tracking page (this number may not be shown for cards mailed around the March 2014 maintenance). Unfortunately 4MyRebate is incorrect and this number is not always the proxy number anymore. 25 digits numbers beginning with 1 and a bunch of 0s are not proxy number and does not appear to have meaning to AMEX. Occasionally (and in the past), the confirm number will be shorter (13-20 characters). In this case it is most likely the card's proxy number. If you can't get the card's proxy number, AMEX can look the card up based on your identifying information, but this will be difficult if you have a large number of cards (the cards are not sorted meaningfully and the agent will have to open each one individually to see any details).

Reason: amex update
yeah i missed out on that as well. I didn't see it as I was working on my staples ez rebates. The money maker would have been good but i have a bunch of those brackets and nowhere to put them.
Hi my name is Swift and I'm a Rebateaholic.
I've got over $3000 in outstanding rebates. ((
I haven't bought a rebate item in 1 hour and 23 minutes days.
Like SuperOcean, I also looked at that 850w HEC psu! I didn't buy it, but I purchased 3 FAR cases today and a great deal of a case (Corsair 600t) last night!
I'm building a castle out of brackets and tablet/laptop cases, a ropeswing out of earbuds and hdmi cables, and a bomb shelter out of computer cases.
That seems very wasteful to me. I thought about donating it to salvation army or goodwill. I wonder if they need /sell things like that.
Shit I forgot that I got in on that stamp deal. Not good that I buy things and forgot that I bought it. I just bought GE DV1 waterproof camcorder X2 for use in the car in case of road rage.
Hi I've fallen off the wagon and have things coming in the mail.
I agree that it's wasteful, but I don't know if anyone needs these brackets. I have a box full of free stuff that my friends go through when they come over but I'm pretty sure even the people who build PCs will have no use for them.
