Product Description:

Tamron Di lenses are performance optimized for digital SLR cameras and usable with DSLRs featuring sensors commonly referred to as APS-C, measuring approximately 24mm x 16mm, as well as larger full frame (36mm x 24mm) sensors and 35mm film SLRs.

The Tamron SP designation is reserved for lenses developed with special emphasis on extraordinary photographic performance. Engineers are free to innovate in an uncommon atmosphere where optical performance comes before price, resulting in lenses that satisfy the demands of discerning photographers.

Play with light as you explore the subtle aspects of beauty. An all-new, high-speed standard zoom lens with image stabilization.

Photographic artists have been waiting for a full-featured, constant-aperture zoom lens. The wait is over. The A007 is a high-quality, highly functional, high-speed standard zoom lens covering the 24-70mm focal range. It includes both Tamron's proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization to reduce shake and its USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) motor, enabling speedy, silent autofocusing. This SP (Super Performance) series lens makes full use of specialized glass elements in its lens layout, designed with top priority on image quality, including three LD elements and two XR (Extra Refractive Index) glasses. Tamron has minimized all types of chromatic aberration in the A007, making it a lens at the top of its class whether you use it on a digital APS-C, full-frame, or 35mm SLR camera. The A007's F/2.8 aperture enables a balance between brilliant resolution and beautiful soft blur effects. This ideal lens makes full use of Tamron's rounded diaphragm and the uncontrived, artistic blur that it provides. It is also Tamron's ?rst lens to feature our new moisture-resistant construction. This lens has gotten pretty good reviews from the Canon and Nikon folks.
The VC on this fast lens is atypical.

The only issues I've heard about with this lens is that the bloke looks like onion rings and the aperture on the nikon between 2.8-4.0 is the same. Not sure if they fixed it yet.

Other than that, it's gotten some good reviews on amazon and dpreview.com.

I bought a few things from buydig.com over the years so they are legit.

I came to post this. did a search, and already posted. bought one. I was thinking of ordering ebay korean company for 920. but happily pay the extra for 6 year warranty and peace of mind.
urlhasbeenblocked has another 2% cash back. If things work out, I will put my canon 28-70 2.8L on craigslist.

I keep debating if I should get this and sell my Canon 24-70 2.8 L Mark I. I use flash as little as possible, so stabilization would come in real handy...

once I have it, I post a comparison. optically, the tamron I suspect will be better, and really miss having the 24mm. the one are tamron is suspect is low light focusing, and focus speed in general. but between shooting indoor video of kids, hence IS, more even stopped down performance through out the frame for landscape and the extra 4 mm on wide end, it was a no brainer. I already have 16-35II which is an 82mm filter size, and have a CP, as well as lee filter set with adapter ring, so filter size not an issue for me.

for me, mostly using this lens for shooting people, on full frame, the IS/VR is really not much useful to me. However, it is for video.

Bought this the last time Buydig had the promo for the $200 gift card and it hasn't left my 5DIII yet. Tamron deserves a pat on the back for making an incredible low-light image stabilized lens in this range. I wish Canon added IS on their 24-70mm f/2.8 Mk II especially since the price is so high. From my personal tests it's better than Canon's 24-70mm f/2.8 Mk I but the Mk II is a tad bit sharper. Also I chatted with a Buydig rep and he just took $200 off the price instead of going through getting the gift card last time they had the promo.

Thanks. I bought one myself for my d800e. Waited about a year for a good deal Smilie. I missed the previous deal with the $200 GC.

I wonder if I can get this now?

I hear the Tamron 24-70mm are made in Japan (vs China).

If this is getting vignetting at 24 & 70, imagine stacking a neutral density and CPL filter on this lens Frown
I had a 28-75 2.8 tamron and I was not a huge fan.

The tamron 24-70 is in a different class then the 28-75.... that's like comparing a corolla to a corvette.

Major vignetting on this lens. I was tempted to get it until I went to the store to test it and the vignetting is beyond my acceptance. Unless if you do post processing, this is a major issue with this lens and it gets worst if you are using video.
