I've been watching Battlestar Galactica on Netflix. Was wondering, how does the Atlantis compare to it? I've always shied away from TV series because of poor acting and low budget, but ever since I got hooked on Game of Thrones on HBO, I've been trying to catch up on series that I've missed. Thanks.

It is a pretty solid show. The special effects were excellent and the characters were interesting. There were a few stumbles as the show found its footing but nothing that major. There were several main story lines throughout that were handled well with a good mix of stand alone episodes. The series ending was rushed but they tied things up pretty well. They were going to do TV movies like they did with Sg1 but scifi thought it was more important to spend the money making their garbage jersey shore shark attack movies. At this price you can't go wrong.

In my opinion, Battlestar Galactica is way better than Atlantis in terms of writing, acting, etc. BSG is also darker & more serious than Atlantis. That being said, I haven't watched the entire Atlantis series (although I probably will marathon it at some point). I liked SG1 & Atlantis, but never got completely hooked on either. With BSG, I was hooked from the first episode all the way to the end. It really just depends on your taste though because I know some people that prefer shows like SG1 & Atlantis over BSG.

As a big fan of Stargate it's a no brainer for me to pick up Atlantis on blu-ray. If I didn't already have all the seasons of SG-1, I would have purchased the dvd set as well. Haha.

I agree with this. I watched Atlantis originally as it came on TV. While they're both Sci Fi shows they're both completely different in tone and style. BSG is more serious, while Atlantis is a bit more light-hearted and fun. They both have their positives and negatives, at the end it's depends on what you prefer.

Lots of reason why SG1 won't see the light of day on Bluray. Outside of the SyFy produced stuff, there are too many issues between the old Showtime stuff, Showtime/SyFy produced stuff, and the MGM/SyFy stuff. It'd be great if one day they would all get on the same page.

SGA on bluray is fantastic stuff! And for those of you worried about SG1 box set, don't worry if you have disc problems they are easily fixed.
