After about a month of owning this camera, I still love it. Haven't used my Canon 7D or Canon 1DMKIII since then. Sometimes the slow AF is annoying since I have a 6 year old but I can live with it.
I still use my T4i, but recetly ordered the EOS-F adapter mount to almost replace the need of using the DSLR. I also ordered the 18-55mm STM lens for the M. I am impressed with the build quality of 22mm.

Already invested over 500 on the EOS M, I really like this camera.

Yes. I recently purchased a Canon 70-200 F/4L lens to make my Canon 7D more portable (before purchasing the EOS-M). Its hard to use large DSLR when you have a kid. Now that I own the EOS-M, I feel like 22mm lens + 70-200mm lens with EOS adapter are the perfect travel kit. I just wish it had a viewfinder. I prefer it to LCD screen.

I agree on all counts for portability. Regarding the viewfinder, I terribly miss it and hope that the next version of this camera comes with it. That said, I am pretty happy with this version till the next becomes afffordable Smilie.

B&H. I requested the exchange a little over two weeks ago. Not sure if they saved me one from that time or just sent me one from current stock. I did ask them to make sure that one is available for exchange.

I (and a lot of other satisfied people on various forums) have been using the Opteka [amazon.com] replacement battery, but you can find some even cheaper 2 packs on Amazon for $15 or $19 all shipped via prime. Not sure if they're actually different or if some are better than the other, but it's worth noting.

What kind of budget do you have for the tripod? Mefoto's lineup is very solid, but rather pricey.

I bought 2 from big mike's and it's about equal to the canon ones not much more in terms of the amount of photos it can take. but i like it, works fine in my canon charger.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/...UTF8&psc=1

Going to try the Opteka next for my upcoming trip just in case I'm gonna carry 4 batteries lol

The batteries all look about the same, don't think you can go wrong. However, the ones that you linked aren't shipped via prime, so you may want to be careful and check if they'll arrive in time for your trip.

As for the tripods, the two that you linked both have pretty poor reviews, and I wouldn't get one of those, since a cheap tripod can easily mess up some excellent photographs, not to mention possibly causing damage to your expensive camera gear. I'd suggest something more solid like this [amazon.com] or this [amazon.com]. While the center post won't double as a monopod, it is removable so you can use it as a wand for selfies. These would probably be the most bang for your buck in terms of stability.

I bought a a 22mm kit from amazon for $299 + tax.. it was supposed to be new, but it was actually opened and damaged (the lens). I'll think twice about buying from amazon now.

This might be a very isolated and exceptional case. I have never such a problem with Amazon. You should be able to contact customer service and get a replacement.

Amazon has built a reputation for outstanding customer serivce. I do understand the heartbreak you went through, I would feel the same.
