I first bought the Meltons. Later I ended up buying some Allen Edmonds (Strand, but same idea here). The difference in quality and feel is night and day.

If you need shows NOW, then buy the Meltons. It is a decent price and its a pretty good shoe. If you can wait I implore you to give it a bit of time and pick up some much nicer Fifth Ave's for only $100 more.

I signed up for the 20% yesterday but did not receive an email? I tried to add to the cart and was ready to checkout but there was no 20% discount added. Any advice?

Sure, but this is slickdeals, no one pays full price. The melton is $175 only, right? Wink

There are plenty of sales on AE such as the tent sale, the 2/250 sale, both on seconds, and some great deals likely coming on in 11 days at the Nordstrom sale. All aforementioned options are better than the Meltons, I assure you.

I didn't have to wait for an email. I signed up for the newsletter and put the shoes in my cart and the promotion wasn't there at first. Refreshed after about 20 minutes and the promotion was applied.

Great deal. Thanks. Got one in Black. I have a Johnston & Murphy which I am wearing from last 3.5 years to work. Excellent shoe. Very comfortable. Has held up all the abuse of walking in NYC :-)

J&M used to be a great shoe company, before they shipped their manufacturing overseas and dropped the quality of materials. Vintage J&M's, especially deadstock, are a real treat.

Better off stacking another $100 and getting a quality American-made pair of Allen Edmonds.

I own both and I agree the looks and quality of the Allen Edmonds are on another level. (I've never gotten so much attention from a shoe before.) But, they cost twice as much, and that was for seconds (which after a quick polish looked good as new BTW).

So yeah, if you can afford it, get the AE, better product and supporting a "Made in America" company. But if someone can only spend a hundred bucks on a dress shoe, J&M are still pretty high quality and hard to beat for the price.

You happen to have the link to the Allen Edmonds?
