Costco has the BigHorn 19ECB on sale for $799.99-$200=$599.99 including S&H. Delivery is curbside via bulk freight carrier. Decent price for a good size RSC. Basic protection for your collection, well worth the cost.

NOTE: SALE DOES NOT START UNTIL 7/11/13

Don't Complain if it doesn't show the sale price yet. If you can't read the start date, you shouldn't have what goes in the safe, lol.

Is this a better deal than a Winchester safe that is $50 more and 2 cubic feet and 93 lbs heavier? That deal is at Tractor Supply and carries the same warranty although no free curbside delivery.

I have a pickup with a lift gate and a tractor supply local so delivery isn't an issue. "LA GARD" electric lock on the tractor supply model.

Starting today Costco has reduced their price of the Bighorn 19 ECB Gunsafe from $799 to $599 delivered to your residence. I mistakenly referred to it as a Buckhorn in the title. This deal just became available online. They have been periodically running this sale and they always run out of stock before the end of the sale. This safe is manufactured in China and distributed by Rino. Compares favorably with safes in the $1,000 and under category.

Caveat to those considering buying this:

The marketing speak of "4.75 overall thickness" is misleading, as is "1.5” thick formed front".

You need to know true thickness of the steel, not "formed" thickness. Additionally, there's no mention of the body thickness. Need to know the gauge of the steel body, as this is attacked as well as prying the door.

That said, if this is all you can afford, then it's better than nothing. However, if you've got 1/2 if the amount of guns this can hold, then you easily have more than $600 (or $800) invested in your collection. You should buy a safe worth at least the value of your collection.

Check out SturdySafe.com, you get a lot of security for your money. They're not the prettiest, but are you really going to be showing of your safe to everyone that comes to your house?

Personally I disagree with spending as much as your guns are worth for most folks.... unless you've got something that's very rare/hard to replace then the only thing the safe is for is a little fire protection and to make it non-trivial for people who shouldn't to access your guns and even this $600 safe does that pretty well.

Your homeowners insurance protects the 'value' of the guns, assuming it's an even halfway decent policy.

Plus, unless your collection is all airsoft, if you have enough guns to fill half the $600 safe they're gonna be worth a LOT more than even the safes at your link cost... so for anybody who actually has 8-12 real guns you'd be talking several thousand bucks minimum to match the value of the collection.... heck, 8 glocks is well over $3000 and they're hardly high end guns... through in a few ARs or other nice rifles and you're well over 5k

Which seems nuts to spend on a safe when your insurance will replace the entire collection for a few bucks a year in premiums if someone with safe-cracking tools actually gets into the the cheaper safe.

Realistically though most thieves are gonna smash and grab whatever they can rather than spend a ton of time in the house trying to get through even a $600 safe.

Very good deal for those looking for a medium weight safe.. but not "great" for those looking for true vault.

But gonna wait for the bigger 700lb version of this safe to go on sale again for $799. (http://www.costco.com/Bighorn-B60...68049.html)

If you can spend $200 more, and are patient, trust me the bigger heavy duty version is a much better buy.

Note that per the warranty document linked on the Costco web page: "Failure to bolt down the safe using the factory pre-drilled holes voids this warranty."

Normally not an issue, unless you are putting it on a post tension slab.
