upscaling doesn't mean the content is 4K, it's still it's original resolution... just screwed up to fit the native resolution of the screen. and i'm more than positive the scaler in this is complete garbage. shitty companies use shitty hardware.
ROFL... tp4tissue "Gaming is gonna shift back to pc, due to steam type services,, AND not to mention really CHEAP hardware that's at least 4 times faster than xbox "
LULZ zxcvb "This does not have a regular VGA connection. This will work with only HP monitors.
Design-wise this TV is "minimal" and elegant. Black with a thin bezel and a black glass base. No smart TV features. Remote is cheap. They spent the money on the screen and little else. Which makes sense since pretty much everything you plug into this will have brains. I have a HTPC, XBox 360 and Sony Blu-Ray player plugged in. Picture quality is awesome.
But 4K content? My only luck so far is with my HTPC with a HD6700 video card. In Ubuntu loaded and the proprietary drivers enabled it does broadcast 4K. Unfortunately I'm having tearing problems when I play videos. I may try to fine-tune it. I've also been trying to do the same in Windows with the latest Catylist drivers but I'm having to hack around the locked resolutions.
All other content is upscaled. From a few feet back it looks great. Put you nose up to the screen and you can see the upscaling artifacts.
So this TV is for people who either already have a 4K device (videocamera, PC, etc) or expect to in the near future. MY hope is that the XBox One or PS4 have decent 4K upscaling or that other 4K hardware hits the market. Unfortunately, since this TV doesn't seem to have HDMI 2.0 ports so a few years no next year probably be better options.
What is your overall take on the TV, pros and cons. I don't care too much for Seiki as a brand based on having one their TVs just as a treadmill tv.
Desktop is simply amazing. Read the Amazon review pages for tweaks under Linux for best results. On my HTPC it's Amazing. No font issues. Cant' see any problems with 30Hz desktop viewing. Video playback was problematic but I haven't completely tweaked it. It really doesn't help that the video card manufacturers are so closed lipped. My HD6700 isn't supposed to go above 1080p but it easily does. I'm sure a few months from now when the next wave of card come out they will all tour 4K.
1) how is it as a pc monitor? fonts? resolution? on a 50"
