Kenmore Elite Hybrid Water Softener [sears.com] - $525

I have been watching the prices on the Elite model which varied between $639-$799. It dropped to $525 AC today and my shopyourway had a 20% back in points over $100 in addition to any CB options you may discover.

The Sears water softener (Hybrid Elite) is currently $509.99 after applying a $50 off coupon code 50OFF300. Shop Discover gives 10% additional as well (YMMV with use of a coupon, but I've never had a problem with this at Sears).

Which is best water softener in the current market. Rainsoft is costly. I am considering Fleck 5600.Anyone can post on what they have? Will there be any repairs associated to Fleck or any water softeners yearly?

See post #32.

I shopped around for a couple months, and ended up here:

Read and/or use their online chat, they are very helpful and will help you with the correct size (and NOT oversell you).

Damn I hate to rehash an old thread but I'm looking at getting a water softener and saw this one on sears. After googling - of course it brings me to this thread which is full of great information!

I actually called the Costco water thing ( I usually think Costco is competitive in pricing) but WOW were they over priced!!! I think they have flat pricing because some homes require much more information. They came out and did a bunch of tests on the water. He then showed me the Print out - Installed water softener - $1499 + tax and I get a $100 Costco Cash card. Now after seeing this I'm thinking it's not a partial rip off... but a TOTAL rip off. They only provide 1 year labor warranty and varying warranties for tank, electronics etc (longest was 5 years for tank).

It included installation and removal of old leaking unit. It was a 30,200 grain unit EP6130.

Thanks slickdeals! Just saved me about $400-500 and probably a better unit.

I was hoping to get one of the "single tank" setups so I don't have the big salt tank AND the resin tank so I can reclaim some room in the basement. Any suggestions for an "all-in-one" style unit?

For people that say "installation is easy". I'd rather not mess with this. I have copper pipes which means I'd have to cut, solder, install new ball valve shut offs (the old turn style are not holding the pressure back and it's still drip leaking) . Then on top of that, I'd have to dispose of the old unit AND drain all the water from the lines in the house since this is in the lowest part of the house. I think it's $400 worth spending. I do however complete ALL my own electric, painting, lawn care, window installation etc. I just think plumbing is a pain in the arse. I also have a few pipes down there that I'd rather have them fix/replace while there instead of me doing it and spending 8 hours (running to stores, picking up tools etc) what will take a pro maybe 2-3 hours.
