*For Discover Card Member Only*

Received two flyers from Discover today. Both of them indicate Discover bank is giving $50 to new customers who open a Discover Cashback Checking. I am not sure if this offer is exclusive, but there is no invitation code given.

Two links get from the flyers:

DiscoverBank.com/RewardsAreIn50 [DiscoverBank.com]
DiscoverBank.com/GetMoreFree50 [DiscoverBank.com]

Highlights of this new checking account:

FREE ATMs
FREE checks
No monthly fees
No minimum balance

Earn rewards:
10? on debit card purchase
10? on online bill pay
10? on checks written

I opened my account before I knew about any $50 bonus. I hope & expect I will still get the $50 however, I fully expect this to go "national" eventually with everyone getting the $50. So If I hadnt already opened mine, I would wait for some kind of "offical" invitation or something.
Simply because $50 is more than 4 years worth of 10 cent at a time cashback transactions.

Its a good deal just on 10-12 10 cent cashbacks per month alone. (Im only going to use it for small transactions and at Aldi where they dont accept any kind of credit cards, debit only)

The link doesn't indicate any $50 bonus offer. However, if you are eligible for this offer, you may see this note on the top of the page once you log in to Discover from that link.

"A special offer just for new Discover checking customers... Get an account opening bonus when you open a Discover Cashback CheckingSM Account."

Clicked link, clicked the open account button on the page, logged in, saw the "special bonus" message at the top, applied, had to call in to verify address, verified with the rep that I'd get $50. He said from July 31st, within 4-6 weeks I will get $50. Only requirement is that my initial opening deposit goes through, no direct deposit requirement, etc. No fees either.

Thumbs up and repped, OP. Easiest $50 I've ever made.

Edit: just signed my fiance up for one too, didn't have to call, auto approved. +$50!

Just talked to the lady from Discover Bank, after you log into your account (credit card) if you see "NEW! Cashback Checking - no monthly fees " under your credit card line then you were invited to this new debit card they are giving and will get the $50.

Their savings is .80. Which is below Allys .84, and below Capital Ones .85 checking for large balances. Since I already have accounts at both, theres no point in opening another at discover for a lower rate.
Not for premium discover accounts as they have better rates than regular.

Well, I dont belong to that club. Despite many years as a cardholder and a high credit limit.

It has been over 16 weeks since I opened my account (Aug. 21st) and still no $50. I have called twice and emailed once, and they always tell me to keep waiting. Anyone else having this problem?

I received 2 $50 credits. One on 1/8 and the other on 1/9. I opened the checking account before 10/31 deadline and hardly used the account since. Does anyone know if the account need to remain opened?

Received 2 $50 credits this week. I opened my account around October 30th. You may want to call them to see if you were eligible.

Can someone please throw some light on this hypothetical situation...

Say you use the debit card to make a $5 purchase, you get $0.10. But instead say you use a credit card to make the $5 purchase and then use this checking account to bill pay the credit card 10 times for $0.50 each. You get $1 instead...

There is got to be a catch somewhere...

Their terms say that they have the authority to deny your cashback if you abuse it and what you described is exactly the type of things they won't accept. I've read somewhere that you shouldn't make small payments to the same merchant in the same day. The FAQ section gives examples of what they consider to be unacceptable.

I have been trying to find out for sure if charging the card as a credit transaction qualifies for the cashback. I think somewhere in ther terms it said that the charge must be coded as debit. Well, the money comes out of the account as debit regardless whether it was credit or debit. I sometimes tried to find out the answer by using it as credit and adding up the amounts at the end of the month, but due to multiple transactions occuring throughout the month it's hard to keep track which were used as credit since some merchants don't give the option of debit and I guess defaults to credit. Anyhowthe amounts don't add up as I expected sometimes. I would need to just use the card only once as credit for one month and see if I get 10c. Anyone knows for sure if using the card as credit works the same way?
