Love this device. I'm skeptical of the vendor.

I've ordered from 1saleaday on several occasions. I've always received what I've ordered. My only complaint is that shipping can take many weeks.

I bought one of these from 1saleaday several months ago and it works great. They do take a long time to get items shipped but they will arrive if you're patient.

FYI - if you have a SiliconDust HDHomeRun Prime networked cablecard tuner you can get the WDTV Live to display live TV if you install the latest firmware on both the WDTV Live and the HDHR Prime. You need to run the channel scan in the HDHR software before the channels will show up on the WDTV Live. Just install it on any PC and run the scan after it detects the tuners.

The only downside is that you don't get any guide data and channel surfing isn't much of an option. The channels show up as individual folders under the Video main folder. Tuning a channel can take about 20 seconds or more.

That and if there is an issue with your order, their customer service is also extremely slow to respond unless you get lucky.

I'd buy a roku for 50$, I have these too but the roku is better at this point. Use PLEX for your own content!

I'm a believer. I used to have 4x WD HDTV but switched over to 4 Roku XS boxes after trying one. The benefit of roku is that it's much more responsive and easier for non-tech family members to use. The free channels are nice (like TED and PBS) and well made... and netflix runs a little faster on roku than WD. I had the "MyMedia" channel installed with the MyMedia server on my computer, but I heard such good things about Plex so I will give that a shot instead.

PLEX is mind blowing once you get it all working, lots of family members are sharing my content across the internet. Having a myplex account is pretty awesome!

Refurb is fine, I've had this device for about a year and it works fantastic. If you've ever had the issue of playing certain media files from your PC, then this is your solution in most cases. Also, if you have one TV with Smart TV functionality, but not the other; then this is your easy and portable solution. Great device at an affordable price, especially if it comes the USB drive slot. My only complaint if anything is that I have a hard time getting it to sync on with the TV, you sometimes have to reset it or power it off completely (unplug) and plug back in to get it to come up on the TV via HDMI.

My second refurbished WDTV Live is giving me problems with youtube playback (crashes / reboots) after 3 months of light use. I'm about to try some 3rd party firmware, but replacing a refurb with another refurb doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I'll likely hold out for a good deal on a new one with a longer warranty.

Not to hijack the thread, but to all the people running PLEX with their Rokus, does it affect your pc performance?

The reason I ask is because I installed it on my buddy's pc that was bought last November. It has adequate performance with an intel i5 CPU, 8gb ram, etc. but he complained that running Plex in the background introduced a lag in his computer with everything including web browsing and just using tabs in the web browser. He uninstalled it a few days later.

I would love to get it back up and running smoothly on his pc. Any suggestions? He has the Roku 2 LT
