from posts in thread, date of yellow tag sale is ymmv in August So you may waste a trip if you go to your TJ Maxx

[B]Hey guys, OK. So I tracked down another manager and asked him everything about the yellow tag sale. Here is what he told me.

1) There IS a yellow tag sale. it IS national. It is unadvertised. It happens several times a year.
3) Employees do NOT know when it will happen. Regular employees will likely not know much about it if they do at all. Local TJ Maxx store MANAGERS get instructions handed down to them by corporate the DAY BEFORE to put yellow tags on everything.
4) It is a SEASONAL discount and YMMV on your TJ Maxx. So when a TJ Maxx store gets the instructiion to put yellow tags on, it is because they are getting new season items in. BUT different TJ Maxx's get new season items in at different times. For some, it is right now, for others it may not be until the end of August or even beginning of September. So it is YMMV.

Summer 2013

Yellow Tag Locations, Confirmed/Estimate, Date

Mt. Pleasant, SC, Confirmed, 8/4/2013
Edison, NJ, Many Reds, 8/4/2013<-- MANY REDS IS NOT YELLOW, GENIUS

Kansas City, MO, Nothing, 8/4/2013
Allen, TX Nothing, 8/4/2013
East Brunswick, NJ Nothing 8/4

Atlanta GA (Cobb Parkway store) 8/4

Come on dude - NEVER CALL.

WTF is wrong with people...
Seriously? I get not calling in certain situations but in a situation like this it is not like they will cancel the sale because someone called to confirm it. Why so hostile? Deep breaths.

Has anyone actually called the store up and confirmed this? TJ Maxx in Illinois aren't aware of this sale.
I called here in KS and was not given verification. Apparently it is an unadvertised sale and just something that happens a couple times a year (from previous posters' comments).

No need to buy and do a rebuy or buy and return and then rebuy the next day bS.

I already know what to do. Do you? nuck nuck nuck

Here is a hint. You can buy the whole store but as long as you do not walk out with it then you do not have to pay for it.

Thanks for the heads up. The clearance sale follows this trend when the sale starts:

1) item marked with a red tag will be marked additional 30% or so.

2) item will be continued to be marked with a red tag 4 or 5X's before its marked with a yellow tag.

3) if item does not sell at the end of the clearance sale, item will be donated to charity.

That being said, some items would be worth buying once the sale starts. You take the chance that that particular item will not be there if you're waiting for the yellow sticker price.

Good luck! nod

The only issue is, if the random employee you called wasn't aware of the sale (but the manager probably is), that employee could hide some of the good stuff, or buy it as soon as the store opens, off-shift.

Up to you if you want to make that call, but don't say there are no consequences Dontknow

How do you know if that random employee and you are interested in the very same items: department, color, size? shake head
An employee who'd do markdowns may share the news with the colleagues anyway. In my book - that's OK, win some lose some. nod

Thank you OP for the dates info and TheAntiPriced for sale details, which can confirm as a long time TJ Maxx/Marshalls shopper. May I remind everyone, as with all clearance, price and availability vary per store, an item you want may not be available in store on Main st., but in abundance in store on Shoppers plaza (names are fictitious, for the sake of example only), not just because of greedy employees on Main St., but sold out before clearance times or never carried it to start with.

Well now imagine a scenario where it's the manager instead and he had no idea until you called him. Now that he's gotten wind of this little sale, he's pissed because he knows the sale is going to affect his numbers for the store. His job's on the line so he needs those numbers and before the store opens on the sale day say he tells all employees to put red tag/yellow tag items in the back and then return them to the shelf after the sale is over. So now, no one is getting any sale items.

Sure, this specific scenario may not be very likely, but this type of thing has happened before. Best Buy is a perfect case in point, where employees will honor coupons/sale items, but once the manager get's wind of it he/she shuts the sale down.

So again, it's because you don't know what will happen that you don't call. By calling you risk f-ing up the sale for everyone! Don't ever call!!!!

calling for availability of a particular hot item on unadvertised short term sale vs. just to find out dates of an event are completely different issues.
TJ MAxx does not do coupons except their CC offer, no weekly/monthly sales like today is 20% of item X, tomorrow full price, does not advertize any specific prices, so something like you described cannot happen, yellow sticker clearance is the end of the line for the particular item(s), means the store is not able to sell it any more at the current price, fashion is not like some grocery store where pasta with exp. date 2 yrs from now can stay on the shelf in July and January. Therefore no matter how badly this manager wants high prices, if it's not supported by demand his sales would plummet: people who do not mind reg. prices generally are not buying shorts and sandals in August, but store would have no space for the new inventory to boost customers interest. Excess inventory watched as closely as sales numbers for many retailers.

BTW, Marshalls, Home Goods and TJMaxx are not always do their clearances together, at the same time.

You can attempt to justify any possibility as much as you want, but I'll refer you to what I said before:

So again, it's because you don't know what will happen that you don't call.

Is the 75% off price reflected on the price tag or is it adjusted at the register.

I don't like spending time around people and I despise any deal which requires me to argue with the cashier if they aren't aware of some supposed special secret sale. Especially when the prize is a $5 dress shirt
