Folks I have a 8-10 year old SIM that I wanna use in iPhone 5. I believe this SIM can be cut to fit the iPhone 5. Right?
The guy at Tmobile shop said this is very old SIM and by cutting, even with a cutter, I may damage the golden part of the chip. Is this right?
Earlier I had used such an old SIM in iPhone 4S. I was able to use the cutter to create a micro SIM. Since the cutter retains the whole SIM casing I was able to switch back and forth between 4S and a regular phone with the same SIM.
Anyone with similar experience?
The reason I am doing this is because this old SIM is a pre-paid one from India. I am in US now and trying to use the SIM once I land in India. If using the cutter the SIM goes kaput then I will have tough time hunting the provider and trying to retain the number that was associated with the SIM. In that case I'd just use a regular phone and not iPhone5 when traveling in India.
I had this problem when I was in China. The vendor sold me a Voice SIM when I wanted a Data SIM. Both were full sized SIMs, but the Voice one had a little bit larger gold portion. They both worked when cut, but you had to position the cutter precisely.
