U-Verse Renewal Deal

rpboy06 73 13 July 28, 2013 at 09:53 PM
Hi,

So my question is if there is any AT&T U-Verse renewal deal. My current U-verse deal that was locked in for a year as a new customer is about to expire. Is there anyway to basically stop my service bill from increasing after August. Like, can I threaten to switch to time Warner if they don't keep my bill the same?

My ATT internet of 12mbps at $29.95/mo is expiring this month. I googled a bit to see what I could do and found this thread: http://slickdeals.net/f/3406670-At-T-U-Verse-Internet-12mbps-25-per-mo-YMMV?page=38

I just called 1-800-288-2020 and told the robot my reason for calling was to "cancel contract." It then put me on hold for a human.

The first thing I told the CS rep is that I want to renew my contract with as good or better terms. He put me on hold for a bit and came back with an offer of $36/mo for the same speed with a pro-rated early termination fee of $180. That was good enough for me so I accepted (it's better than their current new customer offer of $39.95/mo).

You should be able to get $15-25 off by mentioning your canceling and there is a $35 Time Warner Deal. Don't go for the $5 off "deal".

Every single year I call and take the cancel option on my cable and internet providers. I've gotten a discount every time. One year the cable was half off and they gave me a sports package and a set of HBO channels for 6 months in addition, both free. I do it with my cell company as well and get discounts there too. My uVerse deal this year was not as good as previous, so next year I plan to get more with interest.

All of them have piles of retention discounts. Don't talk to the normal customer service reps- they cannot do much and are paid to churn through calls. You want the retention group. They know there's competion out there, and they also know that the new customer sales are just there to reel in new people. They'd rather keep the income coming in than you leaving.

You can also use a special language(like spanish, arabic, etc.) CS number, but speak in english to call directly to the retention department to save time. In most of the cases, the 1st rep. I talk is retention with a .1 sec transfer delay.
