Good price for a kayak. Don't prefer the 'sit on top' style myself, but I can attest that lifetime brand makes good quality entry level kayaks.

Aaargh I need a cheap, entry level kayak, but I'm going inflatable for hte time being (no garage to speak of)!

This is a sit on top. It's not a regular kayak. I think this is mostly just for fishing AFAIK. Not for "kayaking". Know what you're buying before you jump on it just because it's a good price.

I should add that obviously this could be used for "gentle" and leisurely kayaking... just not the sport that I know and love.

So... I shouldn't use this for racing?

Will you be racing against paddle boats and inflatable rafts shaped like animals? If yes, then you will be very competitive... perhaps even an all-star.

I'd put some wheels on it first.

That having been said, for the people who aren't white water kayakers, this is a perfectly good option for novice to intermediate kayakers who want to poke around a lake or slow moving river. The two person sit on top is a great option for someone who wants to take a date out for a paddle.

Another tidbit, if you don't care much about what it looks like its worthwhile to check out your local kayak rental place to see if they sell them off at the end of the season. I've gotten a lot of pretty sweet deals on perfectly sound kayaks that are just a year or two old and have some scratches on them. Usually less than half the price of a new one.

I always take my dates out for a paddle. But what does that have to do with a water craft?

you might check your local store -- mine was handing out 20% off coupons last week that are valid 8/2 - 8/4

Also I bought this kayak in May for $250 - 20% -- I have no complaints. It's a great kayak for the creeks and springs near where I live.
