I have been watching the Panasonic G5, and the Olympus E-pm2 and E-pl5 come down in price and this has been the best deal of them all. I agree the Olympus seems to have a tad better photos but the options and video recording on this camera seem too good. I mean its just 239 bucks. It will probably come down to 239 and include a kit lens at some point but im happy to jump in now. I thought this was an amazing camera at 400 not long ago.
I'm waiting for some idiot to comment that the sensor/IQ is obselete.
Yes, it shant be long now that someone says how a M4/3 sensor is inferior to APS-C because it is too small. But that really has nothing to do with the deal does it? And it also has nothing to do with fun and the perfection of the craft either. When it comes to enjoyment, some of my best moments shooting and some of the best moments I have captured have come on my Panny GF5 (another older Micro Four Thirds camera). Yes, I do find I need to shoot mostly in RAW to accomplish this and they allow for that so what is the problem?
With cameras today, there are so many ways to enjoy them and perfect your skills in all sensor size ranges and throughout the many brands. It is sad to see people limit themselves with one brand or with one style of tool. Don't pass on a great deal that could get you into this fun world of photography is my motto!
I totally agree that a full-frame DSLR is not even the same experience as smaller interchangeable lens cameras, but that is partially the point! Get the camera that works for your needs and get out there and enjoy it! I am never without a lack of fun when shooting with my Pentax Q, my Panasonic GF5, etc. I also love shooting with my Pentax K-R and my K-01. Sometimes I don't like lugging my Canon 5D M2 around and other times, it is perfect for my needs.
This is a deal site, so let me say this: G5 at this price is a great price on a stellar performer with which you could capture many awesome moments! Now lets get out shooting...
One of the things I LOVE about this cam (besides the stellar IQ) is the EVF is one of the BEST I have ever viewed! It's 1.2million pixles and it's nice and bright..perfect for composing/framing.
Anyone recommend a all around lens..like a 18-55 or ?
