Thread Details

Tracfone has their LG 840G prepaid cell phone on sale, reconditioned, for $19.99. Enter the promo code FRIEND1 to take $5 off, bringing it down to $14.99. You also get free overnight shipping on the item.

Enter the zip code of where you plan to use the phone. The deal is the first one listed on the page (I tried a fist full of different zip codes, and the same deals appear for each. Entering your zip is just a formality it seems.)

http://www.tracfone.com/e_store.jsp

When you select shipping, make sure you select the "FedEx Free Overnight Until 8/30/13 - $14.95." Don't let the $14.95 scare you; you won't be charged that. It's just stating the amount you saved on shipping. I'm pretty sure if you select any other shipping option, you will be charged.

I did get hit with Indiana tax, bringing my final bill to around $16.50

Reading the fine print on their site, this reconditioned item looks to have the same 1 year warranty as any of their phones.

If you don't like the idea of reconditioned, the same page has the new version of the phone for $49.99 with a $15 gas card thrown in. Use the same FRIEND1 promo to bring that down to $44.99. So, that's $29.99 after all promos. Again, you get free overnight shipping.

For a price comparison, Amazon has the same phone (new) for $49.99 with free (standard) shipping.

Reviews and comments for this phone are pretty positive. Here's one guys in depth opinion:

interesting... can i buy them but not activate them later?
any comment on gifting them away? can my family use them directly without hassle?

EDIT: alright, asked their CSR myself, and says no issue for gifting them and activated later (in other service regions), will be in for 2.

Glad it worked out for you. I bought some older Tracfones for family members sometime back, and it worked out quite nicely. They're pretty easy to set up, even for the technology challenged.

I just checked again and it's working. Either the site is back up, or it was only an issue for you. Not sure. Still having trouble?

What does triple minutes for life mean? Does it really work when you buy the minutes from tracphone and the phone somehow triples it?

It means that when you add minutes to that specific phone you'll get triple. So if you purchase 400 minutes, you'll get 1200 instead.

HSN usually has the phone on sale (both the black and white) with 1200 minutes (400 minutes tripled) for about $100.

Thanks, replacing the wife's 800G.I suspect the $14.99 refurb's are probably very good I just don't want to deal with the wife complaining about any given thing Wink

Follow up!

My refurbished phone arrived as promised the next day. It was very nicely timed, as it arrived just before I left town for the weekend. I thought I was going to be using a crappy old phone on the trip, but I was able to instead open this package and get set up within minutes.

I bought 120 minutes online through the Tracfone site, then added another 120 minutes on the check out page (adding more to a purchase on that page gives about a 25% discount on the add on) and then entered the code 74316 for 60 minutes extra. Both 120 minutes got tripled, giving me 780 minutes total for ~$49. That's not near the best deal I've gotten on minutes from Tracfone, but it's not bad. I suggest always checking for promocodes before buying Tracfone minutes. You can often get a bonus 20 or 60 for very little effort (note that bonus minutes from promo codes don't get tripled. But, they're better than nothing!) This site often has codes http://www.retailmenot.com/view/t...?c=4045433

I'm fairly happy with the phone itself. It looks sleeker than any Tracfone that has come before. It seems to borrow some style elements from Android devices. The screen is snappy responsive, and the call quality has been good so far. The image quality/resolution isn't much to speak of, but I'm using this phone to make calls, not watch YouTube, so that's fine with me.

This reconditioned model didn't have a mark on it. I'm happy I went the reconditioned route. I definitely feel like I got a new phone for a fraction of the price. Though that white model chazjr posted looks nice too...

I can't say for sure when this deal is going to end, though I suspect it will be the end of the month (8/30.)

You can find More Promo Codes here.. Some codes won't work on Triple Minute phones, but most do..

My phone arrived today as well and I am very surprised by its quality. I am still figuring out the whole promo codes and triple minute thing but it seems to add up the minutes to the phone pretty easily.

The phone looks great for reconditioned and the set up time just took me a few minutes. I even had to call customer service with a quick question and much to my surprise it was not that terrible of an experience. I read reviews that their customer service was on the low end of the poor range....but it wasn't that bad...thank goodness Smilie

I ordered Wed. night(8/26) & can confirm that the reconditioned LG 840G really can be that cheap. Type FRIEND1 in the promo box, choose the free overnight FedEx shipping, & you're in business. With Texas sales tax the total was $16.15. That's less than 5 gallons of gasoline! Will transfer the number & 2000+ minutes from my vintage 06-07 TF Motorola C261, so don't even have to buy minutes.

Learned of the deal here- thanks for posting!
