Planet Fitness is running their "One year. One payment. Zero hassle" promotion.

Not sure how wide spread this promotion is - however I did check five different locations in Western New York, Northern Pennsylvania and NE Ohio. Normal price at my nearest location is $170($10/month + $50 membership fee).

Go here to find your local club
https://www.planetfitness.com/EasyJoin.aspx

After finding your preferred club, you will see the prices down the right hand side:
- 1st: the Black (premier) price
- 2nd: the regular membership price
- 3rd: this promotional offer (if available at your location)

rather get the black card for a little bit more, access to more locations.

BTW, is Planet Fitness 24 hours and does it have wifi?

downloaded p90x. one hour a day minus all the commute time. Of course it lacks the social aspect compared to a gym

For what it's worth, this is probably the best deal for a basic PF membership that you can get. I've not seen any better ones. The previous best was $10/month, no sign-up fee, and a yearly fee of about $35. Monthly fee was therefore about $12-13.

Might be worth checking if the $99/annual will switch to the price scheme above next year. They call the yearly fee a "price guarantee" fee or something like that.

It's available in northern Maryland.

So a little backpack intimidates you or scares you or something? If the way others choose to workout bothers you when it has absolutely nothing to do with you, perhaps you need to consider investing in a home gym.

The fact is that PF has some stupid rules. I appreciate and understand some of them (a jug of water? really?), but others are just moronic. Maybe they should enforce the rule to re-rack the weights and prevent posers who put ALL the 45 lb plates on the leg press so they can do 1/4 - 1/2 range of motion presses. Or leave plates sitting all around the ab workout area because those intense twisting ab exercises just left their arms useless for carrying a 5 lb weight back to the tree.

That being said, each PF is apparently run differently, though the ones in this area are all alike from what I've heard. I have heard of some that have a significant free weight area and don't have as many dumb rules. The bottom-line is that anyone should investigate their local PF first and know exactly what they want before committing to them. It would be a bummer if you paid $99 then realize 1-2 months later that you hate the place. Do your homework. In general, gym contracts suck (which includes paying up front). I've been burned several times, most notably when I went on active duty and was moving away for training, and Bally's wouldn't cancel my contract, forcing me to pay several hundred dollars to cancel.

As for a wannabe, I can bench 140% of my bodyweight and squat and deadlift 2x my bodyweight, at age 41, with about 13% bodyfat. If that makes me a wannabe, then so be it.

As for the apps vs. written log, try an app before you dismiss them. I use Jefit Pro, and it's so far superior to creating a written log that it's not even a fair comparison. I did the written log for the first five months, and while it does work, it's not as easy to use and wastes time especially if you frequently change your routines which I do. You can set goals using a calculated 1RM, something you can't do on paper.
I carry my backpack around with me in 24 hours. No way I'm leaving that in their locker, especially when they post that they are not responsible if it's broken into.

Check out the planet fitness website and search your locations. Each location has its own website. Best way to know if your gym offers this promotion and to find out gym hours.

Because serious weightlifters somehow intimidate or discourage you from working out? I fail to understand the problem. In my experience going back a couple decades, the serious weightlifters are usually the people who are the most considerate in the gym, particularly the bodybuilders. There are admittedly exceptions to every rule; however, it would seem advisable to me to punish behaviors and not entire groups.

No judgments, indeed. I'm glad you enjoy PF -- apparently their attitude suits yours perfectly.

During my 8 years at PF I have only had one incident that required intervention by management ... that of a "bodybuilder" supersetting RIGHT UNDER a sign that states NO supersetting. The gym gets crowded and supersetting is simply a selfish way of "calling" the use of more than one machine at a time. You cannot be in two places at one time.

The place is obiviously not for you so you have moved on. Why do you keep arguing your point here? We understand now but $100 a year speaks louder for most.

You sound like exactly the person they don't want. They want the cardio, "ironman/marathoner/healthy" person, not the gym nut.

I hated LA fitness for that reason. I would go in there and there would be 2-3 muscle heads sitting on the bench press doing 1-3 reps screaming then sit for 5-7 minute break. 2 guys 5 minut breaks between - they would be there for 30 minutes. I'm like WTF. I do 3 sets in that amount of time. 16 reps, 14reps, 10 reps. I can be done my entire lifting part of my workout in 30 minutes.

I appreciate your service and Bally's were douches for not letting you out of the contract but you admitted to being burned "several times". That sounds like you need to lay off the muscle milk and get some DHA instead for brain power. I hope you don't get burned again.

Month to Month - Contracts are for suckers. (BTW I sign people up for contracts for a living, it's not ever better for them but I make well into the 6 figures doing it and it doesn't screw people over, just forces them to stay with me, and I give them great service, but I tend to give other people who aren't under contracts even better service to keep them - the smart clients know this).

My home gym gives me 100+ workout options and I'm always finding new ones. Couple that with P90x and Insanity as well as running sub 6 minute miles twice a week is great. I feel great and could not care less if I have a 28" waist and 26" biceps. I'm comfortable, fit and in shape. That is what Planet Fitness is for.. people who are in shape or want to get into shape.

I've never joined a gym before. Newbie Question: does someone show you around and explain how to use the equipment, etc when you join?
