I have an H/K 1700,overall it's a great receiver but it's missing HDMI standby passthrough feature, not a deal breaker for some but it bothers me a lot LOL.

For those on the market for a receiver. I would recommend Bestbuy open box/clearance online. I picked up an open box in Denon AVR-1713 for $180 in pristine condition.
The Standby passthrough feature is not all it's advertised. Almost ALL receivers will use some power with "passing the signal through". A splitter or matrix switcher may do the trick better.
When my receiver does pass-through it actually gets quite hot. I'm sure if I hooked up my kill-a-watt it'd show to not be cheap to watch that way.
For me (others YMMV) I use a $4 ebay splitter, one to the TV, the other to the receiver. Works perfectly, even with Blurays on my PS3.

Can you explain when you would ever want standby pass through

I need 100 watts per channel for my 16 year old Onkyo receiver that finally died.

Wat does this mean?
◾50W/5.1 Channel
◾3x HDMI/3D Pass Through
◾70W Power

Is this a 50 or 70 watt per channel receiver?

What happened to 7.1 receivers? Did they go out of fashion?

from what I understand, you use it for watching programs you wouldn't really want surround sound for...like watching the morning news. You don't have to turn the receiver on to get audio.

It's not about the money.

It's 70W when only driving 2 channels. When the full 5.1 is driven, it drops to 50W. Pretty weak receiver with a low feature set for the price point.

Looks like a great deal. Good reviews. I'm looking for a network receiver though.
obviously, this one is not "network receiver".
at least from the picture , it does not have RJ-45 network port

This is a decent receiver but you can get networking features for the same price with other brands.

Having no hdmi standby pass through was what made me return the receiver the last time this was on sale. Not having the feature just became too annoying. At this price point it should have the feature. I'm currently using a Yamaha. Got it on sale about 6 months ago for around the same price. Has standby pass through. No regrets returning the hk.

I was kind of thinking the same thing. I had a couple of the 1700's when they were readily available for $200 new earlier this year. They had more power, more HDMI inputs and better overall features. I know we can't live in the past, but...I'm surprised HK even makes such a "basic" receiver.

OHHH I HAVE ONE!! bought one from frys last year for $219 and i love it!!

looks nice on my shelf and sound quality is great,

but i have no clue why the remote control would stop working, volume button still work, but on and off is dead

just fyi the front panel USB is a joke, the main purpose for it is for firmware update which i don't think HK would have any, it doesn't work for any iPOD or mp3 player
some harmans are weird like this. try pressing the AVR button and or the on button and or whatever designates it as the receiver then adjusting something. i have the previous gen model of this receiver and have to press AVR before the volume works half the time
