Technically yes. It works with video anyway, but I haven't tried it with music. I find with video however that the Stream isn't very good. I'm sure its heavily dependent on your home's internet speeds and what not.
I have 50/10 from Comcast, so at my location, it is pretty good. Smilie

I can understand video struggling -- that's a lot of bandwidth to try and push.

I would think as long as one has a decent 3G connection, they should be able to do music without a hitch.

Pondering rolling the dice. I'd love to be able to "take my music" anywhere without filling up my hard iPhone's built-in space.

There's also iTunes Match, if you are Apple- and Cloud-compatible. $25/year.

Too bad to take full advantage of this OUTSIDE of your home network is to pay for myPlex. When I say too bad, I mean that I'm just a cheapskate though... Plex is pretty awesome so probably worth shelling out $80 for the lifetime license.

EDIT: Whoops, I was thinking of PlexPass. I think myPlex is free.

Not necessary to pay.
Instead, use "Air Playit", an awesome app that I have used for years. It's same thing

False, I just streamed a movie and some music remotely today without a subscription.

You don't have to pay for the license in order to stream OUTSIDE of your home network. The pay for service is PlexPass. I currently have a couple of rokus running plex at family member's homes streaming my library there. And now with the android app I can stream to my phone or tablet.

Also has to do with your PC speed as well. Tried running Plex on an older PC and it really doesn't run very well at all. The same PC can run PS3Media Server just fine.

You can already stream to android and ipad/iphone through a web browser but it doesn't work very well on android. Ipad is just fine from what I've seen.

Almost bought this app a couple weeks ago as well. Glad I waited.

First off, you're probably thinking of PlayOn.

Second, you're smoking crack and it's time to put down the pipe.

But if Plex works like I think it does, $2 for life is better than $25/year. I don't mind hosting it on my computer -- I've got plenty of space.

WHOA. Okay, LOL, I was thinking about Plexpass haha. Yes, you're all right; this is free to stream outside the network so I think I'm going to pick it up both my phone and iPad, though I also have AirVideo that works pretty well with iOS.

Please don't blast me for this. But, does anyone know how to get Plex 0.9 to work with streaming ReplayTV?

Does it stream to Apple TV?
Technically, no. However, the Plex developers have come out with PlexConnect. I haven't tried it on my AppleTV 3, but the gist, as I understand it, is that you essentially fool the ATV into thinking that your Plex server is the Apple trailer app. Honestly though, I just run my media library in parallel through iTunes so that the ATV views it natively.

Tangentially, I think that the UI on ATV sucks and I'd suggest using a Roku 3 (if you're looking to stream 1080p). At the time it was released, the ATV3 was the only affordable client that I could find with enough rear end to stream 1080p smoothly....until the Roku 3. Personally, I find that the best bet for viewing Plex on your TV is using a relatively new LG smart TV (2011 and newer I think). It natively interfaces with Plex and is freakin' AWESOME.

Edit: I forgot to mention that there are blu-ray players that have Plex clients available and the oomph to stream 1080p (we have a couple of the Samsung dual-core players that work great). Keep in mind that if you're backing up your library with a good amount of newer media that you'll have to contend with Cinavia. It's included in any B-R player manufactured in 2012 or later as required by law.

I'm unsure, but I know it works with Beta tapes and 8 tracks.
