Warranty: Message #1226 earlier from slimstrike:

Go here and login or create a Microsoft account then you can register the S/N. My 64GB is good until Oct. 2014 and also had the option to buy the 2 year Extended Service Plan with Accidental Damage Protection for $99.

Current status as of 10:24PM EST:

32GB Surface RT with touchcover: OUT OF STOCK
64GB Surface RT without touchcover: OUT OF STOCK

If the tablet you want is out of stock, keep resfreshing this page. [ebay.com] (Sellers keeps removing and re-adding the items)

32GB Microsoft Surface RT with Touch Keyboard Cover Refurb $199:

64GB Microsoft Surface RT (Without keyboard) Refurb $199:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/64GB-Micr...5920884%26

Note: This is a manufacturer-refurbished item.
It carries the same warranty as new Surface RT's purchased at retail, and has been tested/restored by Microsoft to a working condition equal to new products. It has a 1 year warranty, and 30 day return period.

Although the Touch-covers (mylar one-piece) and Type-covers (actual moving keys) say they're on sale for $60-75'ish ... they're actually not a good price, particularly if they're only "seller refurbished", since this means the cover has only been inspected by the seller, whereas these Surface RT tablets are "manufacturer refurbished", meaning Microsoft has deemed the unit to be equivalent to a new unit in funcitonality. Touch covers now have a MSRP of $79 [zdnet.com], and Type covers should be about $99, so saving only 20% to get a used one (albeit in good condition) isn't a SlickDeal(tm). You can find the remaining stock of covers from the reseller here ... http://www.ebay.com/sme/manufactu...1185920884

Accessories:
eBay is also running double eBay bucks from 11am PST to 3PM PDT. (2pm EDT to 6pm EDT) ... better hurry!

The seller for these Surface units is listed as Manufacturer Certified [ebay.com], which is a subdivision of Secondipity [ebay.com], the latter which has a feedback rating of 16,726 and 99.2% positive feedback.

PayPal says the Seller is Liquidity Services Inc.

Important notes:
  • This is the Surface RT (running Windows RT, like Win8), not the Surface Pro (which runs Windows 8). It cannot run regular Windows desktop programs. It can only run apps compiled for Windows RT, and those apps are only available from the Windows Store.
  • On the plus side, Windows RT includes a version of Office Home-Student, including RT versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. A couple of difference between Office RT & normal Office is that they can't include user-programmed content like macros/addins, nor does it do background sync to SkyDrive. See this page [microsoft.com] for more info on Office RT differences.
  • The bootloader is locked, so currently there is no prospect for being able to put Android or any other OS on this tablet.
  • Because the OS is locked down, the only web browser available is Internet Explorer compiled for Windows RT.
  • The Windows RT app store is limited in selection compared to other, more mature tablet OS's like iOS and Android. If you need to use a certain app, check first if it exists specifically for Windows RT via Windows Store Search [microsoft.com]. Search results that indicate support for ARM processors are available on Windows RT.
  • Windows RT 8.1 update is coming on October 18th, which will include Outlook, as well as a simple Start menu.
  • Windows RT takes up about 15GB of storage. Link. [gizmodo.com]

lol at the person who doesn't know a decent operating system when he sees one LMAO
Android before 4.0 on tablet was junk compared to this WinRT. It has all the worse: terrible hardware (from most OEM), lagy, no tablet app... I used a couple (nook tablet, HP touchpad, asus transformer TF101)
RT just need more good app. The basic OS is fine, desktop was extra bonus for power user.

I ALMOST bit on this, but then I realized what I use my tablet for. I use it for the apps, I don't want to go to a web browser just to see movie times, the tablet is a quick and efficient way for me to do things on the go. If the windows 8 marketplace was even half of the Android marketplace I would jump all over this, but the lack of apps, just makes this a touch screen low end laptop for me.

Decided to go with the 64GB version and the Type cover for $273 total. The touch cover hasn't received good reviews and the type cover seems to be way more useful. Plus that extra 32 GB of storage on board can come in very handy.

Yes, I could get the 32 GB deal, sell the cover for $60 minus ebay fees and paypal fees, I'd be taking home $40. So that leaves me with a $160 tablet, plus purchasing the type cover for $72 brings me up to $232. Plus getting a 32GB flash drive gets me out at $252. But I don't think carrying around the extra flash drive plus the hassle is worth saving $20.

Well the description says manufacturer refurbished. For all we know, these can be part of the inventory that microsoft never sold.
I have received Canon refurbished camera that's directly from Canon. And that one lasted 4 months (right after refurbish warranty) before problem with the LCD display and the auto focusing. Just because the refurbished item is directly from Canon or directly from manufacturer, it doesn't mean they will do a good job of "retesting" it or "fixing" it. Remember they just need to make sure it works for up to the refurbished item warranty which usually only 90 days. They are not going to spent lot of money to retest it or stress test it.

Such an embarrassment that it has 80% global market share...
CURSE THAT ANDROID OS!!! Stealing global market share from Apple like that. That make me sick. Mad

Apple should sue Samsung. Yeah that's it. Apple can claim to be an American company (with all their assets in foreign countries and all their products are made in China). We can convince Obama and FTC that this is bad for an American company and block all of Samsung sales and hurt Google. Eggggggcellent!!!! laugh out loudlaugh out loudlaugh out loud

BTW, did anybody get the Nexus 4 deal? Wink

So anyone know about this [B][COLOR="Blue"]
And Refurbished item is hit and miss.

And how do we know if manufacturer_certified did a good job of refurbishing the item? I have received quite a few refurbished item that has problem at the time of delivery .And also some starting to have problem after few months of use. I don't really trust refurbished item especially high tech electronic one. They are not going to spend a lot of money to retest the item during their "refurbish" process.
Dude, Microsoft did not sell enough new Surface RT to have this many refurbished units. They are most likely brand new marked as refurb to avoid embarrassment.

Pulled the trigger...thinking this might be a decent setup for my wife. Her laptop is about to crash and all she does is surf the web, email, light office use, etc.
