Dont forget how many will 'hate' a product only because someone else does. That's an alarming number that will chip in with troll posts. No one tells someone how to adapt to Windows 8 - everyone proclaims they hate it and so those that have nary a clue, now hate it too. This is an awesome piece of hardware, very capable and beautifully built.
I tried one at a mall and I thought it was pretty cool but then I saw how non-supported it was compared to Apple and Android and I can understand why there's so much hate.

Yeah but these are refurbs, not new .. so technically these probably sold as new at some point, and then MS makes money again by selling them for $150 to the liquidation company.

And the $285 to manufacture is a year old as well - costs drop DRAMATICALLY within the first year of these things. MS should have these down to $150-$200 to manufacture at this point (or less).

+1 !!!
I don't think the retailers loose and MS just walks out with free tablets that were returned.

MS will reimburse the retailers and then is stuck with used merchandise. It's then reconditioned and tested and sold to a 3rd party who takes care of these things.

Sure costs price drop, but who is to say these weren't produced at the very beginning for 280$+

In the end MS looses. Consumer doesn't, retailer doesn't.

Unsupported? Do you realize that the Windows 8/RT marketplace is growing at TWICE the rate of the iPad store? These only seem to be off to a slow start because they started 2 years later. Those of us who adopted the iPad early on remember how empty the app store was of native iPad apps, and how utterly HORRIBLE the upscaled iPhone apps looked and worked on the device.

Rome was not built in a day. Neither was any app ecosystem ever deployed.

Bought one just because this shit keeps coming back. Something is wrong I hope this isn't a scam or else eBay is gonna face a MAJOR lawsuit for featuring a scam as their daily deal.

Actually, in the end Microsoft does *not* lose. Why? They get their devices into the hands of customers who either weren't willing to risk $500+ or couldn't afford to, those customers see how good the device is (and it's much better today than it was at launch, to boot), and that becomes positive word of mouth--ESPECIALLY at the $199 all-in price. This is good business all the way around.

UGH WHY CAN'T IT BE THE PRO
I'm so tempted to get this but I just don't need it right now... If it was the pro, though, I could write it off for work...
