Warranty: Message #1226 earlier from slimstrike:

Go here and login or create a Microsoft account then you can register the S/N. My 64GB is good until Oct. 2014 and also had the option to buy the 2 year Extended Service Plan with Accidental Damage Protection for $99.

===========================================================

Current status as of 10:24PM EST:

32GB Surface RT with touchcover: OUT OF STOCK
64GB Surface RT without touchcover: OUT OF STOCK

If the tablet you want is out of stock, keep resfreshing this page. [ebay.com] (Sellers keeps removing and re-adding the items)

32GB Microsoft Surface RT with Touch Keyboard Cover Refurb $199:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/32GB-Micr...2a30c60cb3

64GB Microsoft Surface RT (Without keyboard) Refurb $199:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/64GB-Micr...5920884%26

Note: This is a manufacturer-refurbished item.
It carries the same warranty as new Surface RT's purchased at retail, and has been tested/restored by Microsoft to a working condition equal to new products. It has a 1 year warranty, and 30 day return period.

Although the Touch-covers (mylar one-piece) and Type-covers (actual moving keys) say they're on sale for $60-75'ish ... they're actually not a good price, particularly if they're only "seller refurbished", since this means the cover has only been inspected by the seller, whereas these Surface RT tablets are "manufacturer refurbished", meaning Microsoft has deemed the unit to be equivalent to a new unit in funcitonality. Touch covers now have a MSRP of $79 [zdnet.com], and Type covers should be about $99, so saving only 20% to get a used one (albeit in good condition) isn't a SlickDeal(tm). You can find the remaining stock of covers from the reseller here ... http://www.ebay.com/sme/manufactu...1185920884

Accessories:
eBay is also running double eBay bucks from 11am PST to 3PM PDT. (2pm EDT to 6pm EDT) ... better hurry!

The seller for these Surface units is listed as Manufacturer Certified [ebay.com], which is a subdivision of Secondipity [ebay.com], the latter which has a feedback rating of 16,726 and 99.2% positive feedback.

PayPal says the Seller is Liquidity Services Inc.

Important notes:
  • This is the Surface RT (running Windows RT, like Win8), not the Surface Pro (which runs Windows 8). It cannot run regular Windows desktop programs. It can only run apps compiled for Windows RT, and those apps are only available from the Windows Store.
  • On the plus side, Windows RT includes a version of Office Home-Student, including RT versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. A couple of difference between Office RT & normal Office is that they can't include user-programmed content like macros/addins, nor does it do background sync to SkyDrive. See this page [microsoft.com] for more info on Office RT differences.
  • The bootloader is locked, so currently there is no prospect for being able to put Android or any other OS on this tablet.
  • Because the OS is locked down, the only web browser available is Internet Explorer compiled for Windows RT.
  • The Windows RT app store is limited in selection compared to other, more mature tablet OS's like iOS and Android. If you need to use a certain app, check first if it exists specifically for Windows RT via Windows Store Search [microsoft.com]. Search results that indicate support for ARM processors are available on Windows RT.
  • Windows RT 8.1 update is coming on October 18th, which will include Outlook, as well as a simple Start menu.
  • Windows RT takes up about 15GB of storage. Link. [gizmodo.com]

It isn't. Their double-density 2048x1536 resolution is acAnt picture quality and image sharpness, but you're only using 1024x768 in practice and that is not HD video no matter what they tell you.
I am not sure what you mean by "in practice", but I am sure an iPad with 2048x1536 can show a 1080p video while a 1024x768 iPad/anything else can not. So what are you talking about so confidently?

I was really in the market for a Pro version and wanted to see what the Surface RT 2 brought to the table before any purchase, but I couldn't pass this up for $199 with a touch cover, free 30 day return policy, and 1 yr warranty. I'll try it out and see if I like it. If I don't, nothing lost. If another deal comes up in the next 30 days, no big deal that way either!

This in and out of stock thing all day has had me sweating making a decision on this. Had to order on my phone too because my work blocks ebay. Good stuff!
just use a SSH tunnel from work

Should I get this? I'm a college student looking for something thin and light (touch screen preferred) for when I'm on campus. I'd be using it for basic document editing, watching videos, and web browsing. I already have a high end gaming desktop at the house, so I'm just wanting something much cheaper for on the go for basic things.

I've got a Surface RT for 9 month. The build quality is good (similiar to ipad). Hardware is good, but I don't quite like the screen (low resolution).
Onething worth noting, Win 8.1 improved a lot. If you get Win 8.1 on Surface, you will notice much better responsive, easier to use and etc.

If you need full USB support/Office/Keyboard, this is a very good price for a tablet.
The down side is the app support. If you're looking for good apps, go for a nexus 7 2013.

This should be an option for you then.

I wished this deal was around in Spring before I graduated.

You must be the new intern in the Microsoft marketing department--a fresh face troweling out the same tired talking points that you guys have posted in every Windows RT thread on SD since before your trainwreck of an OS debuted. Can't you guys at least try to vary some of the "the cusp of the next generation of devices" and "this is just the beginning" hyperbole from thread to thread? It's so repetitive it's funny.

I get that Microsoft's marketing and public relations departments can't attract talent, but this kind of writing is so lame that a Marketing 101 student at a community college would be embarrassed to use it.
A Microsoft marketing guy (even an intern) will say that Surface was a bad value proposition when released? Never! He might have got carried away, but there is no proof Microsoft using such means to market their products. On the other hand companies like Samsung have been proved astroturfing the web. If you have worked in any blue-chip company, you will know that they are all Microsoft shops, end to end. MS makes boatloads of money out of their enterprise products. and they are unchallenged there till now. retail is a different story, but still you think MS cares what cheapos like us are up to on a website called slickdeals laugh out loud

Bought one just because this shit keeps coming back. Something is wrong I hope this isn't a scam or else eBay is gonna face a MAJOR lawsuit for featuring a scam as their daily deal.

Buy it. If I bought it you should too. I hated on this thing the entire thread just to piss people off and start controversy. lol
Just pulled the trigger lol. Was saving up for a iPad, but I guess this will do for med school. Big Grin

This will be perfectly fine for work you mentioned. The only thing missing is the ecosystem - it does not have as many apps as iPad, but that should not be an issue if you are not much into gaming/fart apps!. Most social apps are there. It has MS office and browser, so most of your college work should be taken care of. I see no issues - unless somebody points out something big missing.
