Warranty: Message #1226 earlier from slimstrike:

Go here and login or create a Microsoft account then you can register the S/N. My 64GB is good until Oct. 2014 and also had the option to buy the 2 year Extended Service Plan with Accidental Damage Protection for $99.

https://myservice.surface.com
===========================================================

Current status as of 10:24PM EST:

32GB Surface RT with touchcover: OUT OF STOCK
64GB Surface RT without touchcover: OUT OF STOCK

If the tablet you want is out of stock, keep resfreshing this page. [ebay.com] (Sellers keeps removing and re-adding the items)

32GB Microsoft Surface RT with Touch Keyboard Cover Refurb $199:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/32GB-Micr...2a30c60cb3

64GB Microsoft Surface RT (Without keyboard) Refurb $199:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/64GB-Micr...5920884%26

Note: This is a manufacturer-refurbished item.
It carries the same warranty as new Surface RT's purchased at retail, and has been tested/restored by Microsoft to a working condition equal to new products. It has a 1 year warranty, and 30 day return period.

Although the Touch-covers (mylar one-piece) and Type-covers (actual moving keys) say they're on sale for $60-75'ish ... they're actually not a good price, particularly if they're only "seller refurbished", since this means the cover has only been inspected by the seller, whereas these Surface RT tablets are "manufacturer refurbished", meaning Microsoft has deemed the unit to be equivalent to a new unit in funcitonality. Touch covers now have a MSRP of $79 [zdnet.com], and Type covers should be about $99, so saving only 20% to get a used one (albeit in good condition) isn't a SlickDeal(tm). You can find the remaining stock of covers from the reseller here ... http://www.ebay.com/sme/manufactu...1185920884

Accessories:
eBay is also running double eBay bucks from 11am PST to 3PM PDT. (2pm EDT to 6pm EDT) ... better hurry!

The seller for these Surface units is listed as Manufacturer Certified [ebay.com], which is a subdivision of Secondipity [ebay.com], the latter which has a feedback rating of 16,726 and 99.2% positive feedback.

PayPal says the Seller is Liquidity Services Inc.

Important notes:
  • This is the Surface RT (running Windows RT, like Win8), not the Surface Pro (which runs Windows 8). It cannot run regular Windows desktop programs. It can only run apps compiled for Windows RT, and those apps are only available from the Windows Store.
  • On the plus side, Windows RT includes a version of Office Home-Student, including RT versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. A couple of difference between Office RT & normal Office is that they can't include user-programmed content like macros/addins, nor does it do background sync to SkyDrive. See this page [microsoft.com] for more info on Office RT differences.
  • The bootloader is locked, so currently there is no prospect for being able to put Android or any other OS on this tablet.
  • Because the OS is locked down, the only web browser available is Internet Explorer compiled for Windows RT.
  • The Windows RT app store is limited in selection compared to other, more mature tablet OS's like iOS and Android. If you need to use a certain app, check first if it exists specifically for Windows RT via Windows Store Search [microsoft.com]. Search results that indicate support for ARM processors are available on Windows RT.
  • Windows RT 8.1 update is coming on October 18th, which will include Outlook, as well as a simple Start menu.
  • Windows RT takes up about 15GB of storage. Link. [gizmodo.com]

What really cracks me up is that anybody would waste their time jailbreaking a device in order to run Notepad++. OMG

Seriously, don't you think it's time to crawl out of Mom's basement and experience sunlight and fresh air for the first time? You'll like it--really!
I know right? He probably trolls online forums telling people that Apple doesn't have a walled garden either because you can jailbreak and install Cydia apps. LMAO

Has anyone returned this Surface RT to the seller? According to the website, ...

"The seller is unable to cancel orders or change shipping destinations once and order has been submitted. However, all items come with a worry-free, 30-day return policy that starts on the date your item is delivered. If you need to return an item, we will issue a return label if you contact us within a 30-day window following the date your item is delivered. If you choose to return your item without a label provided by us, you will not be reimbursed for any costs associated with shipping. Items must be returned in the same condition as you received them, including all original accessories, manuals and packaging."

I'm just curious, is the return shipping really free of charge? Thanks!

it is FREE, just go to your order detail and click on return item, seller will email you a prepaid label for return, three probably is a timeframe after receiivng that label that it has to be shipped though, even though one has 30 days from day of delivery to request label

I'll bet they are getting back a lot of the $299, $349, $379, $459 sales if those buyers were paying attention to the $199 offers. Big Grin
(They might be just too nice for there own good $$$) Wink

Im really looking forward to be able to mount my windows shares, use RDP, multitasking and have Office on a cheap tablet. This is going to be awesome. I am going to be able to use XBox Smart glass and do something else at the same time.

Ugh. Its always annoying to see a delivery arrived in to the local UPS station on Friday night but won't be delivered until Monday by 9PM. I have a free weekend so I just wanted to do all those tedious updates now while I have the time but UPS said I cant have it changed for pickup today.
I completely agree and am in the same boat with my surface sitting in a UPS warehouse about 5 miles from my house! The seller chose no Saturday delivery I guess.

Sold mine to Gamestop for 280$ It was a nice piece of equipment but I just didn't have a use for it. Our school already has computers onhand and my classes have translation problems from Windows 7 to not even 8.

Screenshots or it didn't happen. I quoted directly from the XDA thread, so if you were able to jailbreak after installing the May 14 updates, then you should respond to the thread and let people know that the person(s) who posted that information were incorrect. That is, unless you were lying.

So how is the performance of the emulator for anything other than a basic text editing app? Tell me that Chrome works just as well as on a real x86 computer (or even Android), then we can talk.

Anyway, the whole jailbreaking argument is a pretty lame and desperate one IMO. It's like saying iOS is just as capable as Android because it can be jailbroken to run non-App Store apps, when nothing could be further from the truth. With some real Windows 8 tablets being priced as cheap as RT, the time wasted in messing with jailbreaking just isn't worth it when the real benefits are so minimal.
Meh at the price it really awesome.

I could get a 100 dollar nook hd+ (cyanogenmod, run most 3d games perfectly and has fhd screen) and this surface rt under the price of an ipad.

that said, I attached the picture of jalbreak with latest update, using the surface rt.

honestly, chrome on any mobile device sucks. Surface rt runs all full sites perfectly with flash. This means all webapps are also at your disposal, while most other tablets only could use mobile sites. Hulu, netflix, and spotify could all be ran using the browser.. And google docs too.

The attachemnt is me running 7 zip and sumatra pdf reader(which is what I use for my desktop to open super large pdfs). You could see it is the most recent windowsupdate.

Anyhow, this could do everything an ipad could do and more if you just use the browser proficiently lol.
and chromium is currently being ported, and I don't really mind internet explorer as its pretty snappy too.

honestly, attaching this screenshot on slickdeals would not have been as easy using an ipad or an android device. It could be done, but not as simple as doing it the same way as a regular windows desktop.

also, there are some pretty cool ported apps, like mouse without borders, which allows you to share the mouse with your desktop. (Its like multiscreen, but not really) (and you share clipboards between the devices.)

And jailbreak literally takes only 5 seconds (download file and run the thing on the device) though you do need to rerun the file every reboot (which I prefer, since it does not permenantly alter system files.
