Warranty: Message #1226 earlier from slimstrike:

Go here and login or create a Microsoft account then you can register the S/N. My 64GB is good until Oct. 2014 and also had the option to buy the 2 year Extended Service Plan with Accidental Damage Protection for $99.

===========================================================

Current status as of 10:24PM EST:

32GB Surface RT with touchcover: OUT OF STOCK
64GB Surface RT without touchcover: OUT OF STOCK

If the tablet you want is out of stock, keep resfreshing this page. [ebay.com] (Sellers keeps removing and re-adding the items)

32GB Microsoft Surface RT with Touch Keyboard Cover Refurb $199:

64GB Microsoft Surface RT (Without keyboard) Refurb $199:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/64GB-Micr...5920884%26

Note: This is a manufacturer-refurbished item.
It carries the same warranty as new Surface RT's purchased at retail, and has been tested/restored by Microsoft to a working condition equal to new products. It has a 1 year warranty, and 30 day return period.

Although the Touch-covers (mylar one-piece) and Type-covers (actual moving keys) say they're on sale for $60-75'ish ... they're actually not a good price, particularly if they're only "seller refurbished", since this means the cover has only been inspected by the seller, whereas these Surface RT tablets are "manufacturer refurbished", meaning Microsoft has deemed the unit to be equivalent to a new unit in funcitonality. Touch covers now have a MSRP of $79 [zdnet.com], and Type covers should be about $99, so saving only 20% to get a used one (albeit in good condition) isn't a SlickDeal(tm). You can find the remaining stock of covers from the reseller here ... http://www.ebay.com/sme/manufactu...1185920884

Accessories:
eBay is also running double eBay bucks from 11am PST to 3PM PDT. (2pm EDT to 6pm EDT) ... better hurry!

The seller for these Surface units is listed as Manufacturer Certified [ebay.com], which is a subdivision of Secondipity [ebay.com], the latter which has a feedback rating of 16,726 and 99.2% positive feedback.

PayPal says the Seller is Liquidity Services Inc.

Important notes:
  • This is the Surface RT (running Windows RT, like Win8), not the Surface Pro (which runs Windows 8). It cannot run regular Windows desktop programs. It can only run apps compiled for Windows RT, and those apps are only available from the Windows Store.
  • On the plus side, Windows RT includes a version of Office Home-Student, including RT versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. A couple of difference between Office RT & normal Office is that they can't include user-programmed content like macros/addins, nor does it do background sync to SkyDrive. See this page [microsoft.com] for more info on Office RT differences.
  • The bootloader is locked, so currently there is no prospect for being able to put Android or any other OS on this tablet.
  • Because the OS is locked down, the only web browser available is Internet Explorer compiled for Windows RT.
  • The Windows RT app store is limited in selection compared to other, more mature tablet OS's like iOS and Android. If you need to use a certain app, check first if it exists specifically for Windows RT via Windows Store Search [microsoft.com]. Search results that indicate support for ARM processors are available on Windows RT.
  • Windows RT 8.1 update is coming on October 18th, which will include Outlook, as well as a simple Start menu.
  • Windows RT takes up about 15GB of storage. Link. [gizmodo.com]

I'm in for the 64 plus the type keyboard. Even for refurb, ridiculous deal. Plus free return shipping within 30 days if I don't like it? Sold. I'm an ipad lover but I need something that I can bring with me for work in a pinch, and most of the things I do on my laptop these days are just streaming video or browsing online.

Someone here could probably explain it better than me, but I'm pretty sure there are some things (like apps) that can't be installed to the micro sd card. I know someone developed a work-around hack a while back but I don't know how reliable it is.
In general or just with this tablet? ive never had problems with any other tablet or phone.

marketing gimmicks? lol
high "density" is what makes it hd, even if you don't actually get more space to use than a 1024x768 ipad,
No, "HD" is High Definition. Anything else is a marketing gimmick.

Everyone hated the HP Touchpad when it was $499. At $99 it all of a sudden became very popular
Everyone also hated the initial crop of android tablets that were selling at Ipad prices. Once the price of android tablets went down to $200-$300 area, they became popular too. Everything is popular at the right price. It a cost to value decision everyone makes. RT is a good tablet that couldn't justify it's initial price because it lacks apps. At this price and including office, it very much is a bargain.

That was obviously a scam from a hijacked account.

i'm guessing these will be hitting closer to $100 by xmas. reminiscent of the HP touchpad firesale.
I'm in agreement, although this deal is for a refurbished Surface tablet. I'm guessing these will be $100 brand new by xmas or afterward.

People don't understand, Microsoft just took a $900 million write down on their tablets. Somewhere there's a boatload of Surface Tablets sitting in a where house and those tablets have to be moved. MS is still making a ton of money from their OS, so they don't have to liquidate right away, but at some point, the stuff has to hit the fan. Surface Tablets will be severely discounted, and it will come very soon. It has to, you can't just let inventory sit there, it's basic supply chain economics. Depending on how well or how poorly MS can get rid of the remaining inventory, at some point, they will have to give it away. People think this price is a steal, but I think the real theft is yet to come.

Also, don't forget, at some point, Microsoft will unveil a newer Surface RT and Surface Pro later on with updated hardware which will make demand for this version of their tablet even less. Apple isn't the only company that updates their offerings once per year.

Interestingly, after 2 years a used HP Touchpad STILL sells for over $130 on FleaBay... that was a nobrainer.

This deal, makes me pause. I want to play around with Windows RT but hesitant at $199.
its really not bad on a touchscreen, its only bad for desktops and lappys without it, and people hated it cause of it mainly having a start menu, which you can now add back in via upgrades etc.
I installed 2012 server which is almost identical, just with server capabilities etc. and its a bit confusing being new, but isn't all that bad.
I snagged one of these mainly for my daughter and it should be great, since it will have a lot greater compatibility with our windows home network vs any other tablet setup.
When a damn kindle fire goes for 150$ and you can get this for 200$ I think its a absolute steal!
