Slickdeals and Adaway Ad Blocking on Android

random32 1,504 698 September 10, 2013 at 10:20 PM
I thought I would upload the whitelist that allows you to click on slickdeals links without adblocker's host file stopping all the fun. The white listed providers below were brought to my awareness by this post here.

Copy the text below and save into a file using notepad, transfer to your device, and in Adaway, import it into the white list. Use "ES File Explorer" to choose the file if you do not already have one (I could never get X-plore File manager to work). You can get adaway from here [xda-developers.com] and...

...you must be rooted.

Code:
# This hosts file contains exported entries from AdAway.

Sorry to bump, but great post! For some reason, I was having trouble figuring out the exact format.

it would be really helpful if you included the location and the filename to paste this whitelist in

Thanks. Trying to figure this out, but old age seems to kick in. How do you import it to the AdAway white list? Seems to allow only adding one URL at a time. Confused

Edit - nevermind, import lists is where it is at. Thanks OP and mrbob!

Thanks random32! I just stumbled across this thread and it is very helpful.

To elaborate on the procedure:

1) Save the text from the OP to a file. The filename doesn't matter, just make one up.
2) Copy the file to your phone or put it into a service like Dropbox. If you copy it to your phone, you will need to have a root explorer to select the file in AdAway. If you put it in Dropbox, you'll need the Dropbox app.
3) Start AdAway, open the menu, select "Your Lists"
4) Select the "White" tab at the top
5) Open the menu and select "Import All Lists"
6) Select the file using the root explorer, Dropbox app, atc.
7) You should now see the whitelist entries in the "White" tab in AdAway
8) Go back to the main AdAway screen and apply ad blocking

Let me know if this list blocked it. I've added some more.

Thanks.

Beware that whitelisting doubleclick will allow ads to be displayed in some apps.

Also note that there is a list of domains in the FAQ. I'm not sure how often it is updated. hhairplane's list appears to include all of them at this time.
