DEAD AND SOLD OUT!

If you ordered the phone last night and got charged shipping - then use HSN CHAT and odds are you will get the 10 back. DO NOT CALL THEM SINCE CHAT FOLKS ARE DIFFERENT THEN LIVE. There has been little success with calling but allot of success with HSN CHAT on getting shipping refund .. no rhyme or reason.

YOU MUST check out availability in your area, and have it shipped to an area T-Mobile considers an area having coverage OR THEY WILL CANCEL YOUR ORDER. After T-Mobile cancel, and 2 weeks of dealing with HSN I had this shipped to an address in a T-Mobiles preferred city. Pulled out a pair of scissors and activated on a $15unlimited text/month-10 cent a minute plan. Nice Phone! I turned off data. Wink

You may find no tax online but will with phone order.

$10 off $20 purchase at HSN with Bank of America debit/credit. Just login to your account and claim the cash back

5% with Discover // Discover has cracked down on giving bonus CB on orders with coupon codes.

Ordered 2 phones separately with no shipping nor tax on either.

This phone is compatible with pre-paid / no-contract providers on T-Mobile's network, and AT&T's network if *unlocked.

******************************************************************
*WARNING: Several people have mentioned the AT&T 520 being easier to "Unlock" implying it would be a better choice than the T-Mobile branded Nokia Lumia 521. What these people are NOT mentioning is AT&T uses different frequencies than T-Mobile.

AT&T uses WCDMA 900 and 2100 (2100 for DATA IIRC)
T-Mobile uses 850 and 1700 (1700 being for DATA)

Typically when using a QUAD band phone on another carrier "Voice" will work, but beyond that full speed DATA. MMS, Picture messaging and having a working Voice Mail indicator isn't going to work properly, if at all.

Another consideration beyond phone having the correct frequencies is all carriers "Brand" the phone with carrier specific software, and or settings that are proprietary to their network.

Short version is if you're "on" AT&T network a AT&T branded phone will be a better choice, If on T-Mobile network a T-Mobile branded phone will be the better choice.

T-Mobile Lumia 521 specs:
http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/...php?p=4062
GSM 850
GSM 900
GSM 1800
GSM 1900
WCDMA 850
WCDMA 1700
WCDMA 1900

***********************************************************************

Some have reported success requesting the unlock code from T-Mobile, 7 days after activating T-Mo service or adding it to an existing T-Mo account. More info on compatible providers and plans www.allprepaidplans.com/ [allprepaidplans.com]

T-Mobile based providers: GIV, GoSmart, TracFone, Lyca, MetroPCS, PTel, Ready SIM, StraightTalk, Solavei, Simple Mobile, Ultra Mobile, Spot Mobile
AT&T based providers: AirVoice, good2GO, H20, NET10, Red Pocket, TracFone, StraightTalk and Cricket.

---------------------------------------
The cheapest "Pay As You Go" providers from the above list are:

T-Mobile Network:
Lyca-mobile [2?/4?/6? for talk/text/data respectively]
Ptel [5?/2?/10? for talk/text/data respectively]
SpotMobile [$25 unlimited talk/text monthly]

AT&T Network:
good2go-mobile [5?/5?/50? for talk/text/data respectively]
h2o-wireless [5?/5?/30? for talk/text/data respectively]

Lyca-mobile:
According to their website you need to get this phone unlocked to work on their network.
Q: What kind of phone do I need? Is a locked T-Mobile phone okay?
A: Lycamobile calls themselves a true mvno and uses their own mobile network code. That means the phone must be unlocked. Almost all other T-Mobile mvno's do not do this. That is why other T-Mobile mvno's can use locked T-Mobile phones.

When people say "Wi-Fi calling", do they usually refer to a feature that lets one use the actual cellphone number to make and receive calls over Wi-Fi? Or using Skype or smiliar app?
WiFi calling is a software feature T-Mobile has on their network. Phones that have the right software can place/receive calls, text, and picture messages over WiFi connection instead of regular cellular tower. This means you can be in an area with no coverage and still use your phone through a WiFi router. It essentially turns any WiFi access point with internet access into a cellular tower for general phone use.

Also note that Wi-Fi calling will use your minutes like a normal connection would, if you are on a prepaid plan. This won't save your minutes, IOW. It just allows you to make a call if you happen to be within range of a Wi-Fi connection but can't contact a cell tower.

Just FYI, for anyone that uses Google voice as their primary number, this is very easy to set up and you don't need T-mobile or their proprietary "Wifi calling" app

Google voice = no MMS/picture messaging? Also, I am pretty sure you have to use the Google voice app to mask your caller ID/text messages properly, which limits you to Android.

Anyone know if you can get this unlocked free at nokiageeks.us?

Here's what I see on their webpage:

This wesbite is provided by the NokieGeeks as a free way for people who can not hack/root their device to factory unlock their phone.

This is similar to the way you would traditionally unlock a phone with an unlock code and entering an incorrect sim card into the device and entering that code. This is now very similar but it is done over the air a carrier update.
Instructions

All you need to do to unlock your Nokia phone is follow the steps below by entering your device & your IMEI number and thats it !

It will take our website about 20 minuets to sync with the carrier's servers at which point you will be offerd an "update". This is a carrier update. Just accept this and your phone will be unlocked on the next reboot.

NOTE: If your phone is on contract you are still liable to pay the contract.
Select your phone: Lumia (All Models) N Series X Series 9 Series 8 Series 7 Series 6 Series Other older models Enter your IMEI number:

I bought this on the 1st through HSN.com. Do they refund price difference? It was less than 14 days ago.

perhaps this will continue to drop as the lumia 925 came out. wish this deal were around a month ago! i would have jumped on it in a heartbeat as i value the wifi calling ability and could have used it a week ago.

now, i'm not sure, as i don't know if i'll need it anymore for the time being. i mainly use it when i travel abroad, to stay connected.

before diving on this deal, is this phone unlockable? is this phone 4G or 4G LTE or whatever G currently out compatible? Will ATT force a data plan on my bill if I started to use this phone?

I just called HSN because I bought it on the 3rd. They won't do a refund because this is a different bundle than the one we bought. This has a screen protector while the one we bought came with a case and earphones.

Should Microsoft, Win8, and SMARTphone all be in the same sentence? I guess military intelligence is a phrase too...
