How do these compare to the Pioneer SP-FS52 towers in a home theater setup?

The Pioneers have been on sale for as little as $90 + tax (but free shipping) through Amazon.

These BIC's are the price of a pair of Pioneer's with tax at full retail through Best Buy.

Sorry I can't compare these two speaker systems but I own the pioneers and can tell you that they are incredible. I have a 20x30x25 room that opens up into the living room and they really pack a punch. I drive them with a Sony str dn 1040 and a bic f 12 sub, no complaints whatsoever.

The BIC's are the Pioneer SP-FS52's daddy. These BIC's are a good value and could last many years, however I see the pioneers more as a set of speakers you cant even sell on craigslist after a year or less of use..

It's pretty incredible just how wrong you are. The Pioneers have been shown to hold their value remarkably well. Just check out AVSforum if you don't believe me. There you'll find 100+ pages of forum thread discussing the Pioneer FS51s and the related speakers making up a 5.0 system, as well as their successors, the FS52s.

I'm not speaking one bit of ill will against the BIC's listed for sale here, but talking **** about a pair of fantastic speakers in an apparent attempt to make these BIC's appear better is farking stupid.

If anyone is truly interested in the quality of these speakers, I suggest heading over to AVSforum and doing a bit of unbiased research on your own.

GL!

P.S. @flickshake, for all intents and purposes, you will need a receiver to power these speakers

No, a receiver is not a necessity, but is an option.

You can use an integrated amp with a sound source (tuner, cd, tape deck, turntable, media player) with these if you like.

Or, you can use a separate power amp, pre-amp, and sound source if you choose.

Umm... Flickshake is a self proclaimed "total audio noob".
What makes you think your answer, as true and correct as it may be, helps him in any way?
The short answer is: "Yes you need a receiver".

I had the older gold colored woofer model of the Acoustechs. The new Pioneers sound better than those, but the BIC speakers got an upgraded crossover recently, and may possibly sound better than the old model I used to have.

These BICs are lot more efficient than the Pioneer, and as a result would probably perform better for home theater use in order to get closer to reference levels with effortless dynamics without spending a ton on amplification.
