HSN is offering an Android on Tracfone, the first of its kind. Phone is triple minutes for life and includes a lot of goodies:

1. $25 Google Play Card
2. 600 Minutes, 600 Text and 600 MB of Data
3. Car Charger
4. Choice of Back Cover

This phone is unique as it offers three different tanks of minutes; your minutes, texts and data are no longer shared. Great value! Nice to see Tracfone add an Android handset to their lineup!

This looks like a good deal but I think I'm going to wait for generation 2.

It's pretty obvious that Tracfone wants to make it as easy as possible for people to accidentally use up their airtime. Couple examples from our phones: no password screen lock feature and a "Browser" button that starts using your minutes immediately when pressed.

I love Tracfone to death, but not being able to put my phone in my pocket is a pretty huge downside. Hopefully in the coming year they'll unveil some decent smartphone choices. This is a good start!
I totally agree with you. My phone you can rebind the internet key to some other function, so that stops the browser loading up accidently.

I currently carry 2 phones. my tracfone and an android without service. I wish I could have both in one. I don't want separate tanks though. just regular tracfone and wifi is enough for me. There is that rare moment I need gps directions and data on the go, but I can always find a MacDonald's or something.

This is good news... but now I have to decide whether I want one. How good is this phone? I don't want a crappy Android phone that is a pain to use or ridiculously slow.

Some verizon phones do use Sim cards. I know mine has one and it's only a 3g phone, not LTE. Might be because it is a global phone though.
just a correction to another reply you got from someone else,

having a Sim slot doesn't mean it will work on att/T-Mobile, most Verizon "world phone"s are purposefully made to not work with their frequencies.

PagePlus uses any Verizon branded phone, and their minimal "$10 every 4 months: for 100 minutes voice and text" plan is cheaper than TracPhone, for those needing only minimal cell phone airtime.
You could pay for the latest full priced Verizon branded iPhone 5S or Galaxy S4 phone (or a cheaper used Verizon phone off eBay) and then only pay PagePlus $10 every 4 months. Use the WiFi feature for data.

is it possible to turn off data? I would like to get this for my mom but she is not good with phones in general. She would literally only use this for phone calls. She does not even understand how to text. I got her the Motorola phone and that POS constantly calls 911 even when locked VERY annoying.

I would like to think you could turn off the mobile data side in settings. Course who knows how heavily they modded the OS. And I am in the same boat as you carrying two cells, but I keep the virgin mobile for the android. Thing that sucks is Sprint seems to be turning off a lot of towers and my signal is getting worse and worse!

That was very helpful....

It is an Android phone with $40 worth of airtime, $25 google play card and other accessories for $130. Not including the accessories you are basically paying $65 for an Android phone with no contract and no monthly bills or service charges.

Sorry you did not like the deal that I found.
Cheap cr#p is still cr%p.

Sorry the facts offend.

You clearly have no interest in this deal, or anything from this company, in fact youa are biased against it regardless of details. Why are you even bothering to read the thread, let alone post, and post again? Just to be an arse? Congrats, mission accomplished! Are you one of those "iPhone-using, BMW-driving, starbucks-sipping dickheads?" Maybe a lawyer?

My kids I bet would love to have an android upgrade for their tracfones, even if it doesn't meet the discriminating standards of The Magnificent SonofZeus. Not sure if this will be the Phone for them, to make it worth the jump from the 840g, but it's at least an indication that the door is open to smartfones at tracfone.

If I read this correctly, isn't this "better than triple minutes" With the old tracfones you got, say, 60 minutes tripled to 180, and any texts and/or browsing deducted out of those 180 minutes according to varying formulas. With this phone, it looks like you get 180 minutes for phone, period PLUS 180 texts PLUS 180mb from that same card.

What's not clear to me is if you use up more in one category than another. For example, you use the 180 texts up but still have remaining minutes/data, can you "translate" the remaining minutes to allow new texts like the current tracfones do, or do you have to buy a new card before you can send more texts (or do more browsing, if that's what you used up first).

ADDED: OK, I should have kept reading, some answered questions, plus a new, BIG one. There are airtime cards unique to this phone? I wonder what that is? Maybe answer to my question above, cards that are cheaper but jus replenish one "bin." Although it is maybe only data?

TracFone Triple Your Minutes/Texts/Data for Life
  • Android handsets will be compatible with all current airtime cards, but will have unique Triple minute conversion
  • You do not need to enter any codes to receive this benefit at the time of replenishment
  • For example:
    - 60-minute card automatically triples to 180 minutes, 180 texts and 180MB of data
    - 120-minute card automatically triples to 360 minutes, 360 texts and 360MB of data
  • Three Android-only data cards will be available
  • Data can be added as needed
  • Data will carry over and stack, but there are no service days

The negative reviews to me clearly indicate I should avoid this deal. They are as follows:

"Bad screen res. Bad camera specs. Sammy customer service always bad."
"ICS with 512MB RAM will be sucky to barely acceptable. Been there and wouldn't do it again."

Drug dealer apparently love them...
"How easy are these to break in half when I'm done with my phone call? That's an important feature for prepaid phones."

"It will NOT work on any GSM networks."

"Supposedly Tracfone will be coming out with more Android phones soon including versions of the L38C LG Optimus Gingerbread, ZTE Z665C Valet Android 4.1, and Huawei H868C Glory Android 4.0..."

No answer to this important question...
"Under which circumstances is this thing (tracfone) better than, say, pageplus or lyca?"

The WiFi is suspiciously not an important enough feature to advertise up front. I suspect it doesn't work very well.

"Cheap cr#p is still cr%p. Sorry the facts offend."

And finally...
600 Minutes, 600 Text and 600 MB of Data
Clearly this is the Devils phone and anyone who buys it and the "666" plan is selling their soul to Satan.

For this reason I'm out and I must in good conscious thumbs down this deal.

These are great questions, and ones that will likely only be answered by trial and error. Tracfone is historically bad at keeping customers up-to-date. Remember when Tracfone first got 3G? There was no indication anywhere that they were switching from "0.5 minutes charged for every minute spent online" to "some amount of minutes charged for every kilobyte transferred." TF customers had to discover the change on their own and reverse engineer the new rate for themselves.

Yes, if you can get 360 mins, 360 texts and 360 MB of data for only $20.... that's awesome.... I don't use even close to the 1200 mins, 3000 texts a month I get from page plus. I do sometimes use up to 500mb of data but this tracfone deal lets you just add more data too.... Getting excited for A-la-carte deals like this coming to cell phones...

I did see 7 reviews on Amazon, a couple of them mentioned not being able to get the PlayStore credit to work, these reviews were thru Net10, but maybe these folks let their redeem by date pass. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/...d_i=507846.
Here's what HSN/TF have to say: TracFone prepaid service •Phone must be activated and promotional package requested by 12/31/2013 to receive promotional minutes and days of service

for those of you pooping on the specs, this is obviously not a galaxy s4 or an iphone. the fact that you're getting an android 4.0+ phone on tracfone is what's intriguing. despite the not so impressive specs, it runs apps smoothly according to videos on youtube. i believe it has an expansion microSD slot so you should be able to add on a lot of storage on the cheap. this phone is a quantum leap ahead of anything else tracfone has. hopefully their future android offerings will be a lot more powerful but this is a quantum leap in the right direction.
